Ayesha and Zain continued to chat online, their conversations becoming a part of Ayesha's daily routine. Despite Zain's initial reluctance, they occasionally exchanged voice messages, sharing more personal thoughts and feelings. Ayesha found herself looking forward to these interactions, feeling a growing bond with Zain. However, Zain insisted that their relationship remain a secret, a condition that made Ayesha uneasy but she agreed to respect his wishes.
Only a few of Ayesha's close friends knew about her secret relationship, and they helped her navigate the complexities of maintaining it. Ayesha's family, however, remained completely unaware. Her sister Zara, who was always protective and watchful, noticed Ayesha's increasing use of her father's phone and her frequent smiles while texting.
One evening, about a month into their relationship, Ayesha was talking to Zain on the phone, using her father's device. She was deeply engrossed in the conversation when Zara walked into the room unexpectedly. Startled, Ayesha quickly tried to hide the phone, but it was too late. Zara had seen the call screen and immediately grew suspicious.
"Who are you talking to?" Zara demanded, her tone sharp.Ayesha hesitated, her mind racing for an excuse. "Just a friend," she mumbled, trying to sound casual.
Zara wasn't convinced. She grabbed the phone from Ayesha's hand and looked at the call history. "Zain? Is this the same Zain I've heard about?" she asked, her voice rising.Ayesha's heart sank. She had hoped to keep the relationship under wraps, but now it seemed impossible. Zara, realizing what was happening, scolded her younger sister. "Ayesha, you know this is not right. Talking to na-mehram like this is forbidden in Islam. These kinds of relationships only lead to trouble. Men often play with feelings; it's nothing but a time pass for them."
Ayesha felt a mix of guilt and defiance. She respected her sister's advice but felt conflicted about her feelings for Zain. She nodded, promising Zara that she would stop talking to him. Zara, sensing Ayesha's reluctance, added, "If you don't stop, I'll have to tell Mom and Dad. This has to end."
Feeling cornered, Ayesha agreed, knowing she couldn't risk her parents finding out. Zara, satisfied with the promise, took the phone and left the room, thinking she had resolved the situation.
However, Ayesha was not ready to let go of her budding connection with Zain. Despite her sister's warning, she decided to continue talking to him, albeit more discreetly. During her mid-term exams, she managed to find time to chat with Zain through other apps, carefully hiding her tracks.
A month passed, and Ayesha thought she was safe. But Zara, still suspicious, kept a close eye on her. One day, Zara caught Ayesha using her phone again, and this time, she was furious. She grabbed the phone, scolding Ayesha harshly.
"I told you to stop talking to him! You promised!" Zara's voice was full of anger and disappointment.
Ayesha tried to explain, but Zara was beyond listening. In her frustration, Zara slapped Ayesha and deleted the Snapchat app from the phone. She also forbade Ayesha from using the phone for anything other than necessary communication with family.
Ayesha felt crushed, not just by the loss of her connection with Zain but also by the realization that she had disappointed her sister. she watched Zara leave the room, Ayesha felt a deep sense of loneliness. She had defied her family's values and now faced the consequences. But despite the pain, a part of her still longed for the connection she had felt with Zain, leaving her caught between her emotions and her family's expectations.
