A Shinobi's Take on this Wonderful World

The Aqua Incident

In the realm between life and death, a pair of wooden doors manifested from seemingly nothing. They creaked open to reveal a young woman with long spiky yellow hair. She wore a blue chiton with golden trims over her slender form and stepped into the room on her brown sandals.

Ocean blue eyes scanning the emptiness, she scratched at the whisker marks on her cheeks.

"How did senpai do it again...?"

Eddy, the Goddess of the Maelstrom muttered as she recalled her many lessons from Eris, the Goddess of Luck. With a snap of her fingers, a desk and a chair appeared in a plume of smoke.

"Hehe... Alright, what else."

The woman mused and snapped her fingers a second time, and a wooden desk appeared this time.

Another snap, and a pile of papers plopped onto the desk with a thud.

"...Well that sucks."

Eddy stared at the papers with a disinterested look. But she didn't let the landslide of work ruin her mood. After all, today marked her first day as a full fledged goddess!

In fact, she was about to start guiding the souls of a realm that had previously been lacking an official god to oversee it. Poor Eris had been overseeing this realm on top of the parallel world where her parents were currently residing.

"But now, after all of those boring lessons, it's my time to shine!"

Eddy declared to no one in particular before taking a seat in the chair.

"Eris-senpai was a little worried about letting me go off on my own like this, but I'll show her that I'm more than ready! I'll take on this pile of souls in no time!"

Besides, she could always call upon the angels if she needed help. That lot was very helpful, if not honest to a fault and somewhat clumsy.

She grabbed the first sheet of paper and read the details.

"Oof... Blown up by friendly fire, huh? That's rough buddy."

Eddy chuckled nervously when something caught her eye. On the corner of the desk was a red button that said "Display" on it.

Curiosity building up like a dam within her, Eddy quickly shook her head and snapped the desk out of existence. Best not get distracted on her first day.

Some Time Later...

"Ugh... Bored!"

Eddy complained after sending the umpteenth soul to Heaven and slumped in her chair. Having shadowed Eris through a handful of deaths, the job was easy enough. But while it was interesting to hear some of the stories the mortals would sometimes share, more than half of them would simply complain or straight up be in denial which was quite frustrating.

"Empathy, Eddy. As gods, we must show the mortals compassion and the utmost patience."

Eris had told her after every session she'd shadowed.

Snapping the desk into existence again with a sigh, Eddy couldn't help but notice the button again.

Curiosity eating at her from the inside, the goddess looked around with suspicious eyes.

"...It wouldn't hurt to see what this does, right? This is my domain now, after all."

Eddy nodded to herself before ultimately pressing the button, and a strange contraption poofed into existence on the desk.

"This is... A television?"

The woman noted when she noticed a small black object resting on the side of the device. It was rectangular, and there appeared to be tape inside of it. But what really caught Eddy's attention were the words that read "Aqua Incident" on it.
