'Every situation in life is temporary. When life is good, make sure to enjoy it fully. When life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way.'
🚨
The moment Louis stepped out of the car was when he first held his breath. Their eyes met across the roof, the decision to go there, now hung heavily between them.
"Are you really sure about this?" Harry questioned, though he instantly regretted it. Louis had been agonizing over the decision for days, his answers shifting back and forth like a pendulum. Harry knew deep down that Louis didn't want any part of this. Seeing his partner's face now, etched with fear and anxiety, only deepened his own sense of guilt. It was probably Louis' first time in a prison, but thanks to his own father's wrongdoings, Harry was all too familiar with the cold, oppressive environment of such places.
Louis looked around vaguely, taking in the imposing structure before them, then looked back at Harry and nodded.
"Yes, I'm sure. Let's get this over with." he said, his voice resolute despite the turmoil inside.
Louis walked around and opened Saxon's car door. He climbed out, his small eyes scanning the area curiously but warily. He clutched Louis' hand tightly, sensing the tension in the air.
The prison loomed before them, a monolithic structure of cold, grey concrete and steel. Its high walls were topped with barbed wire, glinting menacingly in the dim light. The entrance was flanked by tall watchtowers, each manned by vigilant guards. The place exuded an aura of foreboding, a stark reminder of the lives confined within its walls.
As they approached the entrance, the heavy iron gate creaked open, revealing a long corridor lined with reinforced doors. The sound of their footsteps echoed ominously off the stone floor, the harsh fluorescent lights casting stark shadows along the walls. The air was thick with the scent of antiseptic and metal, a sterile, almost suffocating atmosphere.
They reached the end of the hall where a guard pointed at them towards a counter to sign in. After scribbling their names on the register, the uncomfortable part began. They had to be searched. Harry didn't mind the procedure, having been through it before, but watching Saxon, so small and innocent, go through it felt utterly wrong.
Once the checks were completed, Louis turned to Harry with a pleading look.
"I want to come in there too."
Harry shook his head firmly.
"You can't come in, Lou. We won't be long."
The reasons were twofold: Harry didn't want Louis to experience the anger and pain of seeing Chris, and he also needed to uphold the agreement he had already made.
He leaned in, kissing Louis on the cheek just as the guard signalled for him and Saxon to follow. Louis watched them walk away, his heart sinking as he saw the sadness in Saxon's eyes when the boy glanced back.
Suddenly, Saxon let go of Harry's hand and ran back towards Louis. For a fleeting moment, Louis felt a surge of hope, thinking Saxon had changed his mind about going in. Saxon bolted into Louis' arms, and Louis hugged him tightly, savouring the closeness.
