Christmas came and the whole house was decorated with holly, ivy and mistletoe. The Doctor, being a tall man, was frequently asked to help with the decorating and he stole many a kiss from his wife while calling her to him underneath the evergreen mistletoe.

The whole family had a marvellous time and since there were no other relatives expected for the holidays, it was just a merry party of five.

The Yule log was placed ceremoniously in the fireplace by a very proud Antony and then it was time for presents.

Rose had decided it would be the best time for telling her parents, when they were in raptures from the off-worldly gifts.

They were gathered in the main sitting room, a blazing fire kept them warm and lit the whole scene in a soft yellow glow. Realising how much she had missed these quiet evenings at home, Rose looked at her family with joy and gratitude. She took the Doctor's hand in hers and watched anxiously as her little brother unwrapped his present.

"A pocket watch? Wow, thank you, sis. It looks just like dad's."

Mr. Tyler looked at the lines on the outside and said: "It's a singular design, those circles, do they have a meaning?"

Before the Doctor could give a response, Mrs. Tyler: who had unwrapped her present, squealed in delight as she held high the necklace and touched the individual gems in awe.

"Oooh, this is beautiful! This must have cost a fortune, oh my, how Mrs. Jones will envy me. This is truly amazing. Oh Rose, what a wonderful gift, where on earth did you find it?"

She continued her raptures for a while longer, during which time Mr. Tyler could no longer contain his curiosity. He opened the large box he was given and his eyebrows flew up on seeing the intricate design of the perfectly crafted little stone figurines.

"Oh my, Mr. Tyler, what have you been given. Is that not the handsomest set of chess you have ever seen? Do you not think so?"

"This, my dear, is no chess."

Mr. Tyler looked at his daughter and on seeing the tense look on her face and the reddish blush on her cheeks, he motioned his wife to hold her tongue for a moment.

"Rose, what is the matter, dear?

Mrs. Tyler's look travelled from her husband towards her daughter and on seeing her flushed constitution she made to react in concern, but Rose quickly spoke to give ease.

"Nothing is the matter, let me assure you, we are all well. However there is something I... we have to tell you. Something I fear will cause consternation and I beg of you therefore to allow me to finish the story before you give a reply."

"Does it have something to do with the t... what I overheard?"

Tony's face turned red after he almost broke his promise and his fearful gaze flew to the Doctor.

The Doctor however smiled and relieved, Antony held his watch tight in his hands, while he turned to his sister, awaiting her explanation of what a tar-dis was.

"It does Tony, but I am unsure where to begin."

"Usually it helps to start at the beginning of where the story commences," Mr. Tyler said with a wink.

Rose smiled and with a deep inhale began to relate what she had told Martha a few days ago. The version was slightly different this time, due to the fact that she could not possibly inform her parents of the night she accompanied the Doctor or the kisses they stole in the garden.

A few times she saw her mother making to interrupt, yet her father withheld her from those attempts and Rose continued. She had thought about how to convey the meaning of her husbands alien-ness very often, so the words came pretty quick and without much stuttering.
