Requested by Thatwhorewhowrites: Y/N and Tom have a baby who gets sick. Y/N gets really worried and so Tom comforts her.
My eyes shot open, the sound of crying through the baby monitor waking my body up instantly.
"Jesus." My husband, Tom, groaned as he also woke up, though his squeezed shut eyes told me that he had also been woken abruptly by the sound of our daughter crying so suddenly. I looked at my alarm clock, my eyebrows furrowing as the time read two-fifteen am. That was concerning. Our baby girl, Evie, was only two months old, but already we knew what times she'd wake up in the night for changing, feeding or just attention, and she'd never woken up at any time close to this before.
"What the fuck?" I mumbled as I threw the covers back and stood up from the bed.
"Darling, she probably just needs changing." Tom sighed as he rolled back over and closed his eyes.
"I guess that I'll do it, then." I scoffed.
"Love you." He called after me, making me sigh and shake my head as I headed along to her nursery. I headed in, cries and whimpers leaving Evie's lips as I got to her crib.
"Hey, hey, sh, it's okay, mummy's here." I cooed softly as I leant down to gently stroke her cheek like I normally did to calm her down. But as soon as my finger made contact with her skin, I knew that something was wrong. My eyebrows furrowed, my heart starting to beat more harshly with anxiety as I put the back of my hand to her forehead.
"Tommy." I called out as I felt the uncomfortable heat on my skin.
"What's up, love?" Tom yawned as he wandered into the room.
"Feel her forehead." I mumbled. His eyebrows also furrowed, a worried look quickly spreading to his face as he rushed to me. He put his hand against her head, his eyes widening slightly.
"Oh, fuck. She has a fever." He sighed.
"I was dreading this, first baby Holland fever." I gulped as he gently put his hands around her and started to pick her up.
"Call one-one-one or something, see what they have to say about it. I'll see if she'll eat anything." He nodded, making me gulp again and return the nod as he gently lay her against his shoulder.
"Come on, my love, let's see if you'll eat anything." He mumbled to her, making her whimper and fuss against her dad's shoulder as he left the room with her.
"Yeah, will do, thanks a lot." I sighed to the doctor before hanging up the phone and wandering back into the kitchen. I walked in to see Evie lying in Tom's arms, shrieks and cries leaving her lips as he bobbed her up and down and desperately tried to get the bottle into her mouth.
"Come on, sweetheart, work with daddy, please." he groaned as she continued to kick and punch out with her small limbs.
"No luck?" I asked, making Tom look up at me.
"None. I've been trying since you got on the phone. She hasn't even had a drop of milk, she really doesn't want it." He shook his head.
"Tommy, I think that we need to take her to the hospital." I gulped, my eyes wavering as tears pricked them. He looked at me.
"Is that what the doctor said?" He asked.
"She said that we should wait until morning and see if the fever breaks, but she also said to bring her in immediately if she wasn't eating." I choked. Tom sighed and looked down at Evie, our baby girl still crying and kicking out her limbs as she made it clear how unhappy she was.
