It all started one day when Eve was folding laundry in her room, listening to her favorite song. She was dancing, and didn't have care in the world.
Her mother, who was a nurse at the nearby hospital, had just gotten home. Unbeknownst to Eve though, she had a guest with her. Eve's mother told the guest that they could put their things in the spare bedroom, "It's upstairs on the left. The door might be closed, but you can open it."
The guest went upstairs, but instead of opening the door to the spare bedroom, they opened the door to the Eve's! The guest stood there, watching Eve dance around her pajama's until Eve turned around and saw, to her surprise, Danny Monter, standing in her bedroom doorway.
"Hey!" He said cooly.
"What the hell! What are you doing here?"
Her mom shouted from downstairs, "Hun! We have a guest!"
"I can see that!" Her mom comes upstairs.
"He'll be staying with us for a bit until his parents are back in town. I was thinking about making ravioli for dinner, sound good?"
"Sure, whatever." She goes back to folding laundry. Her mom goes back downstairs and starts dinner, Danny goes to the guest room.
A little while later Eve's mom comes back upstairs, on the phone, this time. She talks to the person on the other end for a minute, and when she gets off she says, "I have to go into work. One of Bob's patients had a malfunction with his heart monitor, but Bob's on a date so I have to go in. I'll be back late so you guys can order a pizza." She hands Eve $20 and heads for the door, not even saying goodbye.
Danny walks into her room then. "She left?"
"Yep!" Resentment fills her voice. She turns to her phone and says: "Hey siri, text Gemma; So close, yet so far. She's gone, I'm ordering pizza, Meatball!"
Danny says, "Sooo, what? This happen often or something?"
"What? My mother ditching me me for strangers she shouldn't even have to deal with but she's too nice to say no? Nope!" She turns to him, "Why do you care?"
"I don't know. I just figured..." she cut him off.
"What? That everyones live's are as perfect as yours? Because I've got news for ya! They're not!"
He opened his mouth like he was going to say something, but then the doorbell rang.
DING DONG!!!!!!!!
"I'll get it." He says, and makes his way towards the door. Eve hears him having a brisk conversation, and then he goes back to his room as her friend, Gemma, enters.
"What," she says, giddy. "The actual. HELL!! Is HE doing here!!!"
"My moms charity!! Because god forbid!"
"Girl! The literal hottest guy in the school is staying at YOUR house, and you don't care!!"
"No! He's an entitled ass."
"Ohhh," she pauses. "Come on! Your not still on that are you?"
"On what? The fact that he and his friends mocked me. Ruined my high school life. And now he's right here in my god damn house?!?! No! I just wish my mother wasn't such a bitch who's always helping people!!!"
DING DONG!!!!!!!!
"I'll get it!" Danny shouts. And he gets the pizza from the delivery man at the door. He brings it in and Eve gets plates for everyone. They sit in awkward silence at the kitchen table, eating the pizza, and passing weird glances back and forth.
At 10, Gemma leaves for the night.
"She seems friendly!" Danny says, not bothering to help clean up the dinner stuff.
"She is. She's my best friend, but she's friends with everybody."
"I like her! She's got a sense of humor!"
"You barely know her! And we didn't even talk to you the whole time!"
"So? I could still tell! She's a good person!"
"Unlike you." Eve muttered, heading to her room.
"What?"
"NOTHING!" She yells, as she slams the door.
