Beth's pov
— Summer of 2012 —My daughter and I are staying at Cecelia's for a little bit until I can find a job. We wanted a fresh start after my mom passed away, but I didn't have enough money for a home. Cecelia's house had dirty hard wood floors and tables covered in cups full of mold growing inside of them. My daughter and I are currently sleeping on a twin-sized mattress in the same room as my nieces Ivy and Ray.
I look down at my phone, and I get a text from Jody.
— Texts with Jody —Jody: Hi. Can I have Shelia's clothes?
I was already grieving my mother's death. I didn't need her asking for her clothes.
Beth: Hi, maybe later things have been a little crazy... Sorry.
Jody: Can I at least see Kaylie? You promised me I could see her soon.
Beth: Yes, you can see Kaylie soon. I'll talk to you later.
Jody: You never keep your promises. First, you tell me I can't have her clothes, and now I can't see Kaylie. I'm glad your mom died.
I blocked her. I don't need that toxicity in my life at the moment.
The longer me and my daughter were staying at Cecelia's, we eventually started feeling like we were dying too. Staying with Cecelia made my daughter a complete mess. Every time my daughter was acting badly, they would scare her or hit her, and then when she started going to therapy, I found out that when I wasn't in the room, she would talk about it, and I had to tell her that therapists record every session without her knowing so that they wouldn't take her away. She later got diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety. It wasn't until the fight that I decided to start staying at a hotel to get away from Cecelia and her husband, Frank.
