Ivy's pov
— Winter of 2015 —My mom put me Ray and Kay all in ballet class, but it's very embarrassing because she keeps bringing up the fact we're homeschooled i feel like a complete outcast compared to these other kids.
Kaylie's pov
— Winter of 2015 —Ballet teacher: Okay good now arch your back a little bit more
Kaylie: But I don't know how to
Ballet teacher: Just do it! Go as far as you can
Kaylie: This is as far as I can!
Ballet teacher: Well go further
I tried arching my back further. I could tell she was mad at me until I was finally able to arch my back slightly further and her and my aunt were both proud of me.
Ballet teacher: Yes good! Now suck in
Kaylie: Okay
I sucked in my stomach while feeling one of her hands on my lower back and the other on my hand while my feet were sore from the ballet shoes.
Ballet teacher: Try to suck in a little... more
I was ashamed I wasn't able to see my ribs, but especially because of the fact I still wasn't able to see them when I was sucking in. After this lesson she accepted that I couldn't suck in more and moved onto making Ray feel bad about herself. She was a little more harsh with her and later on she started crying, and her mom got mad at her, I didn't hear much of their conversation except for "I just wanted to make you proud mom" coming out of Ray's mouth after that was a new lesson. I was standing beside a girl and the ballet teacher said we had to pick a partner for this lesson and hold hands with them "Do you want to be my partner?" I said to her holding my hand out, but it accidentally brushed up against hers "Don't touch me! My mom said if black people touch white people they'll turn white". She said "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to". I replied "It's fine, but we can't be near each other" she replied back. I really didn't expect her to react like that. I didn't mean to make her afraid.
