Hazel opened her locker and started to place her new notebooks inside. "Yo! What classes you got?" Jesse asked as she walked up to Hazel, "Science and english, you?" Hazel asked, "Damn! I got history and math!" Jesse said in irritation, "It's okay! When's your free block?" "I have one around ten and another around two," "Same! We can just hang out at our free time," Hazel said as she closed the locker.
"So, you got anything for lunch today?" Jesse asked with a smile, "You didn't pack a lunch on the first day of school?!" Hazel practically yelled, "Hey! My mom rushed me this morning," Jesse defended herself, making Hazel laugh, "You gotta get into the rhythm dude," Hazel said as Twobit walked up to them, "Yeah, I know. What are you doing here Matthews?" Jesse asked.
"Failed senior year, gotta redo it," Twobit said, "What classes do you have?" Hazel asked, "Science and english this semester," "Yes! I have a friend in my classes!" Hazel said with a joyful smile, "Good for you, I'm gonna be stuck with kids that I don't even like," Jesse said, "Hey, at least we have the same free blocks. We'll get you food so you aren't hungry during them," Jesse said.
"You girls want me to drive you then?" Twobit asked, "When's your free time?" Jesse asked, "Ten and two," "Oh perfect, all three of us have the same time. And that would be amazing Twobit!" Hazel said, "Okay. I guess that we should probably get to class before we get into shit on the first day," Twobit said to Hazel, "Yeah, see you later Jesse!" Hazel said, "Yup!" Jesse said as she they separated.
"This year I'm definitely gonna pass!" Twobit said, "Yeah... remember when you said that last year? And the year before?" Hazel said, "Okayyy! I second guessed myself! As long as I know what the hell we're doing, I'll be fine," Twobit said as him and Hazel walked into their classroom. They both walked to the back of the class to share one of the double desks.
"I wonder how many new kids we're gonna get this year," Twobit said, "Oh man! There was a ton outside at the parking lot!" Hazel said, "How many seniors?" "I don't know. Kids basically look like adults now," Hazel said, making Twobit laugh a bit. A bunch of kids were coming into the classroom, "Any parties happening lately?" Hazel asked.
"Nah. Any boyfriends?" "Nope," "Wait. What about you and Dal?" "We don't talk anymore. He just stopped talking to me. And then I saw him hanging with Sylvia today in the parking lot," Hazel said, "Shit! I'm sorry Hazel," "It's okay," "No it's not, you want me to confront him?" Twobit asked, "No, just leave it," Hazel said laughing.
"Speaking of the man himself," Twobit said as they watched Dallas walk into the room. He avoided eye contact with Hazel, causing him to sit in the front of the classroom. "Wow, you two really don't talk," Twobit said, making Hazel giggle, "If he doesn't wanna talk to me, then he doesn't have to," Hazel said, "But you two were tight," "Yeah, but sometimes it just ends," Hazel said as the teacher walked in.
"Okay class, let's all get settled down now," the teacher said, "I see a lot of familiar faces here, but for those who don't know me, I'm Mr. King," Mr. King said as he sat down in his desk, "Now, since it's the first day, we obviously have new kids here," Mr. King said, looking at a guy sitting in the middle of the room, "Class, this is Aven, my girlfriends son."
"Can we not do this?" Aven asked, "No, it's kinda the rule in this class. So Aven, please come up to the front and tell us about yourself," "Seriously?" "Aven, don't be like that," Mr. King said. Aven rolled his eyes and got up, then walked to the front of the class. "Holy shit he's tall," Twobit whispered to Hazel, "And hot," Hazel whispered back, "New boyfriend?" "Maybe," Hazel said a smirk, causing Twobit to try and not laugh.
The bell rang, meaning that it was some kid's free block. Hazel and Twobit walked out to the parking lot, waiting for Jesse at Twobits car. "Where the fuck is she?" Twobit asked, "Dude, her classes are all the way on the top floor," "What the fuck," Twobit sighed in frustration, "How about we just talk about that class for a bit."
"You just wanna talk about that guy," Twobit said as he walked to the other side of the car.Did you see him?! He's so fine!" "Yeah, now say that in front of prince charming?" Twobit said, "Dally's behind me, ain't he?" Hazel said, "He's walking up," Twobit said. Hazel turned around to meet up with Dallas, "I just need to ask you something since you basically have everything," Dallas said as he walked up to her.
"What?" Hazel said, not amused, "I was just wondering if you have an extra pen," "What the fuck Dal, already lost your pens on the first day?" Twobit said as he lit up a cigarette, "Yeah, here. Don't even give it back," Hazel said as she gave him a pen, "Thanks," Dallas said as he put the pen in his pocket, "That's not why you're over here, is it?" Hazel said, basically reading him, "We need to talk-"
"You mean the thing that you're not good at? Yeah, she's fine," Jesse said, "This ain't about you Jesse," Dallas said, "Don't play that game with me Winston, cause you sure ain't gonna like the ending. Now beat it," Jesse said with an attitude, making Hazel's eyes wide, "Hey, I asked him to come over here," Hazel said, defending Dallas, "No you-" "Yeah, she did," Twobit said, "Okay, but you better not ask her out again."
"How about you guys go get some food, and I'll stay here to talk with Dal," Hazel said, "Absolutely not-" "Come on Jesse, get in," Twobit said as he got into the car. Jesse rolled her eyes and also got in. "So what's up?" Hazel said with a grin, "Really? You aren't mad at me?" "Oh I am. But we're at school, so I can't really beat the absolute shit out of you," Hazel said, making Dallas smile a bit.
"I know you saw me with Sylvia. I just wanted to say that it was nothing! She just needed a ride here," Dallas said, "Dal, I don't care what you do. You stopped talking to me, we aren't a thing anymore," Hazel said, "But I'd like us to be," "Oof! Hard pass," Hazel said, "C'mon! It'll be like summer all over again," "You mean the summer where you ghosted me? I think that I'm okay," Hazel said as she started to walk back to the school.
"You know that I still love you," Dallas said, "It definitely doesn't feel like it," Hazel said as she continued to walk. Dallas rolled his eyes and then head to his car. Hazel sat on the concrete sign of the school and opened her notebook to go over what would happen during the semester.
"Excuse me!" A man's voice said, causing Hazel to look up, making eye contact with Aven Cullen. "Hi," Hazel said stunned by this man's face. He was handsome. So handsome. His eyes were a gorgeous cerulean-olive green color with a honey brown center around his pupils. His hair was a dark umber that shined into a more tawny color when it would hit the sunlight.
"I was wondering if you possibly knew where the office was?" Aven asked, "Oh! It's on the second floor to the right of the building," Hazel said with a smile, "Could you possibly show me?" Aven asked. He knew where the office was. He already had been there. He just wanted to walk with this breathtaking woman. Hazel closed up her book and got down from the sign.
Hazel and Aven both walked up the steps of the school together. "I'm Aven by the way," Aven said, "Hazel," Hazel said with a smile as they walked into the school together.
Dallas watched the whole thing.
And he definitely didn't like Aven.
