"We're sacrificing the girl for no reason."

It's morning now and you're sitting on a patient bed.

"I can help people sleep?" You ask the man, who introduced himself as Katz.

"Yes. And we need to find out what makes you so special."

You get off the bed and closer to the other bed in the room.

"Is he still alive?"

"Oh, yeah, she's still alive." Katz says walking closer to the chimpanzee on the bed, with her skull cut open, putting her brain on display. "We, uh.. had to ease the tension by draining a cerebral fluid, but that hasn't helped. A catch-22. The only way to ease the tension is to drain the fluid, the only way to clean the brain is the fluid."

You step closer.

"Can I touch her?"

"Sure." He says and you take her hand, listening to her soft whimpering. You give her a small smile when she looks at you, then Katz takes the breathing mask with anaesthesia to her mouth. His hands shaking violently as he does.

"Ether. Well, see.. nothing. No effect. Most animals are able to sleep after the incident, but chimps, well, they were always closest to humans." He says as you look at the chimpanzee isn't falling asleep from the anaesthesia.

"Hi." Someone says and you turn to the door as a woman walks in.

"I'm Dr. Murphy, I'm a friend of your boyfriend." She tells you and then turn to Katz. "Can she?"

"Uh, we're gonna try the ether on you now, Yn. To prove you're special."

"Okay." You say and get in the patient bed again. He puts the ether to your mouth and you take nice and easy breaths, until you fall asleep.

"She sleeps." Katz says. "Poor thing."

"Amazing." Murphy says in awe as she strokes your head.

...

Murphy walks in to where they contained Julian. He sits weakly on the floor, looking dazed, his hands restrained to a pipe at the wall.

"Hey.. I want to be disappointed that you didn't tell me about Yn after all I've done for you." She says and bends down to him. "But as a wife, I understand."

"How long have I been here?" Julian asks, disoriented.

"Uh, 18 hours.. Why can she sleep?"

"Who?"

"Who? Yn. Has she had any, um.. surgeries, that you know of?" She asks him.

"How long have I been here?" Julian asks breathing heavily and she sighs.

"It was some sort of a solar flare, we think. It.. changed our electromagnetic wiring. It affected our glymphatic system. Messed with our.. our clocks."

"Yn." Julian says, then shakes his head. "Yn. Oh, please, let her go."

"Julian, your survival, our survival, depends on Yn. Hm? Gotta keep trying." She says and pats his leg before standing up.
