Song recs: I'm Sorry- Joshua Bassett

•Angelines POV•

I took a deep breath, my hands trembling slightly as I applied the final touches to my makeup. The backstage area was buzzing with energy, but all I could focus on was the pounding of my heart. Tonight was the night we would debut our new song, "ILYM," and I couldn't shake the nerves.

Eli walked over, sensing my anxiety. He gently placed his hands on my shoulders and looked into my eyes. "Hey, you got this. You've worked so hard for this moment, and you're going to be amazing."

I gave him a small smile, trying to let his confidence seep into me. "Thanks, Eli. I just don't want to mess up."

He pulled me into a hug. "You won't. Just go out there and have fun. We're all in this together, remember?"

I nodded, feeling a bit more at ease. Eli always knew how to calm me down. We'd practiced this song countless times, and I knew it inside out. It was just the thought of performing it live for the first time that had me on edge.

"Alright, are you ready?" Dani asked, popping her head into the room with an excited grin.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, taking one last deep breath.

We headed towards the stage, and I could hear the announcer hyping up the crowd. My nerves kicked up again, but Eli squeezed my hand reassuringly.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Angeline Hart, Eli, and Dani Young performing their new hit, 'ILYM'!"

The crowd erupted into cheers as we stepped onto the stage. The lights were blinding at first, but I quickly adjusted, focusing on the familiar faces in the audience. The triplets were there, front and centre, cheering us on. I gave a small wave, feeling a bit more at ease.

The music started, and I took my place at the microphone. As I began to sing, all my worries melted away. The lyrics flowed effortlessly, and I found myself lost in the music. Eli and Dani were right there with me, and their presence was comforting.

Halfway through the performance, I glanced over at Eli, and we shared a loving look. He smiled at me, and it felt like we were the only two people in the room. I could feel the connection between us, and it gave me the strength to pour even more emotion into the song.

Matt's POV

Watching from the audience, I felt my heart ache as Angeline and Eli performed. They were incredible together, their voices blending perfectly, and the chemistry between them was undeniable. They shared loving looks and smiles throughout the performance, and it made me feel sick.

I thought I had accepted Angeline and Eli being together. I thought I was okay with it. But seeing them up on stage, so in love and so perfect together, was like a punch to the gut. Every note, every glance between them felt like a reminder of what I had lost.

I forced myself to clap along with the rest of the crowd as they finished the song, but my heart wasn't in it. I couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that had settled in my chest.

•Angeline's POV•

The applause was deafening as we took our final bows. I felt a rush of relief and exhilaration wash over me. We had done it. We had performed "ILYM" perfectly, and the crowd loved it.

Backstage, Eli and Dani were beaming. We hugged each other, celebrating our success. The triplets soon joined us; their faces lit up with pride.

"You guys were amazing!" Nick exclaimed, pulling me into a hug.

"Seriously, that was incredible," Chris added, high-fiving Eli and Dani.

I noticed Matt hanging back, a small smile on his face but something off in his eyes. He congratulated us, but I could tell he was struggling. Everyone else soon left the room, leaving me a few minutes to gather my things. I knew Matt wanted to talk, and I was bracing myself for whatever he had to say.

"Angeline, can we talk for a minute?" Matt's voice was quiet, almost hesitant.

"Of course," I said, turning to face him. "What's on your mind?"

Matt took a deep breath, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I'm really happy for you, Angeline. You and Eli... you're amazing together. But seeing you two up there tonight, it's just really hard."

My heart broke a little for him. I stepped closer, unsure of how to comfort him. "Matt, I... I didn't mean to hurt you. This is just how things turned out."

He nodded, a tear finally escaping and rolling down his cheek. "I know. I'm not blaming you. It's just... I still care about you a lot. And seeing you so in love with someone else... it hurts."

I reached out, placing a hand on his arm. "I'm so sorry, Matt. I wish things could be easier."

Matt shook his head, trying to compose himself. "It's okay. I just needed to tell you how I feel. I'm happy for you, really. I just need some time to get used to it."

I gave him a small, sad smile. "Take all the time you need. I'm here if you ever want to talk."

He wiped his eyes, taking a shaky breath. "Thanks, Angeline. I'm sorry for breaking down like this."

"Don't apologize. You're allowed to feel how you feel," I said softly.

Matt gave me one last, long look before turning to leave. "I'll see you around."

"Yeah," I replied, watching him walk away. "See you."

As the door closed behind him, I felt a mix of emotions. I hated seeing Matt so upset, but I also knew I couldn't change the past. Eli was my future, and I had to focus on that.

When Eli came back into the room a few minutes later, he immediately noticed something was off. "Hey, you okay?"

I nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, just had a talk with Matt. He's having a hard time with everything."

Eli pulled me into a comforting hug. "I'm sorry, Angeline. I know it's tough."

"It is; I just feel bad," I admitted, leaning into his embrace. "But I'm glad I have you."

He kissed the top of my head. "Always. Now, let's get out of here and celebrate our amazing performance."

I smiled, feeling a bit lighter. "Sounds like a plan."

We gathered our things and left the studio, ready to celebrate our success. Despite the challenges, I knew I had a lot to be grateful for.
