The last few weeks, Spencer and Toby would meet up three times a week before school for tutoring. At each session they'd catch themselves getting closer and closer. Every week they sat closer together. Spencer would catch herself standing behind Toby and leaning over him with her arms forming a cage around him while trying to show him something. Their hands always touched whenever they passed papers to each other. They tried to ignore it, but both felt the sparks whenever they touched accidentally, or they felt the tension between them whenever they stared into each other's eyes for longer than they should. Their smiles got wider with every conversation they shared. Their laughter got louder with every inside joke they told. It felt like talking with your best friend.

It was Friday morning. Toby waited patiently while Spencer looked over an assignment, he completed on his own the night before. Spencer put the cap back on her pen then used it as a pointer. She moved her chair closer to his. Their arms touched as she showed him his work.

"Your vocab translations are getting better," Spencer said. "You got an 82% on the vocab section, which is a 20% increase from last week, so that's good. Your verb tense percentage is still at a 70% range, which is fine. Your ability to ask and answer questions in French, last week your score was a 62% and today it's a 65%, so you're improving some, but if you want to pass your final exam at the end of the semester, we've got some work to do there. Lastly, your verbal..."

"Don't bother," Toby sighed. "I know that still sucks."

Spencer offered a sympathetic smile, "if it helps, your accent's getting better."

Toby chuckled, and shut his book, "can we stop for today? I don't think my brain can take any more of the 3 years' worth of French lessons."

"Sure," Spencer smiled. "You really are getting better, and hey, give yourself some credit. You didn't take French 1 or 2, and every week you keep improving. It's only been a month."

They stood up.

"I know, and hey, I want to show you something." Toby shuffled through his book bag. He held up his French verd Quiz from Wednesday."

Spencer grinned, "You got a C- that's awesome!"

"Well, I don't know about awesome," he said.

"Are you kidding? That's such an improvement from the D you got on your last quiz." Spencer looked at him for a long time and smiled. "See, you're doing great. I'm proud of you."

Spencer wrapped her arms around his abdomen. Toby stood there for a second before wrapping his big arms around her slender frame. He liked the way she felt in his arms. Spencer leaned her head against his chest for a moment, feeling comforted by the beats of his heart. Toby closed his eyes for a moment breathing in her sweet scent. It was Spencer who realized first that someone could walk in at any moment. She begrudgingly let go of him. He missed the feeling of her as soon as they let go.

"Thanks again," Toby said. "If I'm doing better, it's because of you."

Spencer smiled and said, "you're welcome. And you know, if you want extra help with the verbal quiz, my parents are going to be out of town Sunday, we can video chat or something."

"Okay," Toby smiled.

Toby and Caleb recently purchased two motorcycles that needed work done on both. Saturday morning, they meet up at Toby's house to work on their bikes. This was something Toby hadn't been able to do in a while. He's missed it. Working with his tools and hands is something he's always been good at. Fixing this bike will be tricky for him, but it's cheaper than taking it to a shop. Plus, they got these bikes for a decent price, so Toby and Caleb were determined to get them to run.
