*General*
It was 7:30 in the morning. Aria hated getting up this early, but after the conversation she had with her math teacher, she knew this needed to be done. Aria's mom drove her to school that morning. She was to meet with her math tutor at 7:45 in the tutor center. There were not a lot of cars in the parking lot yet. Only the teachers have arrived. Aria walked in with her mother then they split up by the student office. Aria turned down the hallway towards the tutoring room. The door was closed, which made her wonder if anyone was there yet. She tried the door, and it was unlocked, so she walked right in. She walked in to find Spencer Hastings and Toby Cavanaugh kissing.
Spencer and Toby broke apart. They stood there looking like two children after they broke a vase. Aria looked at them. They looked back at her.
"I..." Aria was too stunned for words. "I'm sorry. I was supposed to meet my math tutor here."
The door behind her was open. Toby gathered up his things as Spencer just stood silently with her hand covering her lips.
"I'm leaving," said Toby as he tried to hurry out the door past Aria.
"Uh, Toby," Aria stopped him.
He looked at her puzzled. Aria gestured by pointing at her own mouth indicating that the lipstick Spencer was wearing was now smeared on his lips. Toby wiped his mouth using his sleeve then vanished down the hall. Aria looked at Spencer who turned away from her trying to fix her own appearance. Why had Spencer picked today to wear the lipstick that rubs off on everything? Aria closed the door.
"What was that?" Aria asked.
Spencer looked up with tears in her eyes looking petrified. She walked over to Aria and was practically begging.
"Please don't tell anyone what you saw."
"I won't," Aria said. "But I thought you two hated each other. You told me there's this thing going on with your families."
"I know," Spencer said. "It's complicated and messy, and it's a really, really long story."
"Do the other girls know about this?"
"No, and please don't tell them either. They wouldn't understand."
"Okay," Aria nodded. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Spencer cleaned her face, "I can't right now."
"I understand," Aria said. Aria changed the subject. "I need a math tutor. I'm supposed to meet them this morning."
"Right, what's your tutors name?"
"Andrew."
"Ugh," Spencer rolled her eyes.
Aria chuckled, "you know him?"
"Yeah," Spencer picked up her bookbag getting ready to leave. "We dated the year before. It ended badly."
"How badly?" Aria leaned in.
"I broke up with him for being too obsessive, and he never let it go."
"Wow, is he a good tutor though?"
Spencer rolled her eyes, "I don't know. I usually leave the room before he gets here."
"Well, are you any good at math?" Aria asked. "Maybe I'll switch to you as my tutor."
"You can do that, but Aria, you know you can just ask me to help you outside of school on your own terms instead of going through the tutoring center."
"I know that now." They smiled.
