-General-
The two stood three feet apart frozen in shock. It had been a long time since the two of them had personally crossed paths but, they know their history. Their families history.
Spencer's gaze shifted to her surroundings, wondering if anyone had seen them. They weren't in the middle of the floor, but they were surrounded by a lot of people. If word got out that Spencer Hastings and Toby Cavanaugh danced together, the town would be in a frenzy. Not only did they dance, but they kissed. Her father would have a heart attack if he heard about this interaction.
Toby did not know what to say or how to act. Pretending like he hadn't enjoyed his time with her would be dishonest, but this was Spencer Hastings. She was a member of the Hastings family. Her family had ruined his family's reputation. Whether or not she had anything to do with what happened between them didn't matter. It wouldn't matter to Toby's father. Toby knew his dad would be furious if he found out he kissed Mr. Hastings daughter. In his defense, he did not know, and he had asked multiple times for her name beforehand. He could not be expected to take the blame for this mishap. Although now that he's looking at her in her dress, he should have figured it out. He should have known based on how extravagant her outfit was. The Hastings were wealthy. Her necklace cost more than his car.
"I—" Spencer stuttered. "I have to go."
Spencer used her hands to lift up her long dress. She turned away from him and cut through the sea of people.
Toby stayed frozen. He felt conflicted. He knew he had to leave before more people recognized him, but a part of him wanted to go after her. Why? What could he possibly say in this situation? It wasn't like anything more could ever happen between them, right? Toby made the decision to leave the party.
-Hastings—
Spencer's mind swam with thoughts and emotions as she elbowed, he way through the crowd. She could not believe she had just kissed Toby Cavanaugh. Why did she think keeping their identities would be a fun little game? Why had she failed to put the clues together? Toby had left Rosewood almost four years ago. This man said he had just gotten back after being gone for a while. She remembered the rumors about what had happened to Toby. He had crashed his fathers car on the sidewalk next to the high school. After that incident, Mr. Cavanaugh had Toby shipped off somewhere. That was four years ago, and that was the last time anyone had seen or heard about Toby Cavanaugh. She used to know him on a personal level, but that was when they were kids. She can't remember many personal details about him, but she remembered thinking he had the bluest eyes as a kid. She did not know him now, just his reputation. Their families hated each other. It was Mr. Cavanaugh's fault this whole war between them happened.
"Spencer there you are!"
A bouncy blonde cut her way through the crowd. Hanna took her mask off as she approached Spencer at her table. She was accompanied by Alison and Emily. Spencer's mask was off and she was sitting with her elbows on the table rubbing her forehead.
"Hey, you guys," said Spencer, quietly.
"Are you okay?" Emily asked, taking a seat. "You're looking a little pale. Did you have too much to drink?"
"No," Spencer said. "I haven't even gotten around to drinking."
"Then what's wrong?" Emily asked.
Spencer sighed, and leaned forward, "I did something really stupid tonight."
Alison's eyes gleamed with curiosity as she sat down.
"What'd you do?" She asked.
Spencer kept her eyes down and said, "I don't want to talk about it."
