I Believed In You.

Chapter Seven

It's been 7 months. I stood next to Lori as she held my arm for stability, we waited for the men, and Carl to clear the most recent house, that we would be staying in for the night when we heard the whistle I helped her in as she held her stomach, Rick secured the doors and I moved Lori to the couch to sit, she had been on her feet for a long time and I pulled out the last bit of food I had and handed it to her, I hadn't eaten in a long time and everything handed to me has been given to her. I didn't need it, and she didn't need to know that I was doing that. When we saw what looked like a herd we all rushed to the cars again and made our way out, once again we all stopped, i stayed with Lori in the car as everyone else spoke about what we would be doing, she held my hand and I held hers, she leaned onto me, and Rick came over.

"I'm gonna head out with Daryl, I'll be back soon." He said rubbing both our heads and I smiled nodding as he turned to leave. When he came back he told us about the Prison. We made our way there and got in between the field and the outside, we ran around to draw them and made it to the entrance. Rick made a plan and with that said I would stay with Lori and keep her safe. I let Rick out as she sat on the ground to rest, and I nodded at Rick, he nodded at me and booked it out. I shot through the gate the best I could and when he closed the gate, we cleared the field, I shot through the gate, as did everyone else, and it was cleared within minutes. I jumped happily when the last was shot.

"Yeah! Rick!" I ran out into the field with Lori and I jumped into Rick's arms and he laughed, I turned pulling Lori into the celebratory hug, I also went to Carl and side-hugged him as he was too big to pick up anymore. Though, Rick didn't hug Lori. We made a fire and Rick was the one on watch.

"That's his third time around. If there was any place compromised he would have found it by now."

"I'm gonna go talk to him," I said and Hershel nodded at me, he must have thought that was a good idea. I got up and walked over to him. He stopped seeing me making my way over.

"Y/N, come to have another talk as a friend?" He asked and I laughed.

"Y'know I just wanted to say... I believed in you. Believed you could do it," I said and he hummed. "It doesn't matter how long it took Rick, because you did it." I grabbed his hand in front of me, and he looked at it, then at me.

"It was hard."

"Damn straight," I said and he laughed a little.

"You made it easier, taking care of Lori the way you have, like you did when she was pregnant with Carl, Sometimes it makes me wonder if you were meant to be a mother." He said and I looked down.

"Maybe. I always did want to be, but... that's not in the cards anymore." I said and he shook his head.

"Please, it could still happen." He said and I smiled at that, seemed naive.

"No, it won't, can't. Not only are all the men here taken, but-"

"Daryl not an option?"

"I love Daryl but, he doesn't seem the dating type," I said and he hummed nodding a little. "Besides," I pointed and he looked seeing him with Carol. "Not 100% sure, but they seem a little close," I said and he hummed nodding. "I'm okay... been by myself a long time Rick," I said and he hummed. "But I don't want to bring children into this kind of world," I said and he glanced at Lori. "The world was already unforgiving to me... now there is no forgiveness," I whispered. He stared at me, and I smiled slipping my hand away from his slowly. "Besides, there are few men I want, that I deem worthy for this." I waved my hands up and down myself, and his eyes followed quickly before looking away and chuckling, I laughed too. "Come on," I said and we walked toward the group, Beth was singing some song, Carl handed me food that I automatically handed to Rick and he handed it to Lori, she took a bit but left the rest for him, he offered it back to me and I shook my head. We spoke about tomorrow and what the plan was going to be, and I lay next to Carl on my stomach, bumping shoulders with him. "You, sleep," I said as his mother got up to talk to Rick, I saw them fighting a bit, and I pulled the blanket onto him and laid on my back to look at the stars feeling the heat from the fire, Lori came back and laid next to me, I smiled at her. "He is just pent up, after we get this cleared, you know we will be good... we needed this."
