Chapter Eight

I walked into the cell block and saw Carl working on his gun as I carried the crutches we found in the infirmary that Carl had cleared, from what Lori said he did apologize but very briefly and I was disappointed. I walked into Hershel's room seeing him waiting for me. "Here we are Hershel, let's try," I said and Beth helped him up. "Take your time." He nodded at me.

"Don't push yourself, Daddy," Beth said as he hoisted himself up.

"What else am I going to do, I can't stand looking at the bunk one more time." He said and I chuckled, as he began to walk, I held my hands up ready in case he would fall. "I think I'm steady." He said and I nodded at him.

"Okay, I think that's enough," Lori said and I looked at her.

"He can decide that." I chuckled and she nodded realizing that he was an adult.

"Let's take a stroll." He said and I nodded walking with him, Lori also holding onto my arm as we walked, we made it outside and I helped Hershel down the stairs, we talked about how we would be able to live here, and other misalliance things.

"Ready to race Hershel?" Carl asked and Hershel laughed. That was when I heard a groan.

"Gimme till tomorrow, then I'll be ready." Hershel laughed and I hummed.

"Walkers!" Carl yelled suddenly and I turned, seeing them, took out my gun and began to shoot we tried but it was futile, so I grabbed Lori and Carl as it got too overwhelming.

"Inside now!" I yelled and they followed me, as Beth, Maggie and Hershel got to safety together. We ran inside a gated area and I closed it shut, and we ran into the prison itself as there was nothing to hold that gate shut. I closed the doors behind us and as we entered, Walkers overran us there too, so we had to make it to the halls, I had Lori in my grasp, there was no way I would let her die. We ran our way through the halls when the alarms in the Prison started going off. "That's gonna start bringing walkers to the prison," I said and Lori suddenly stopped groaning loudly. "Lori?" I asked and she looked at me.

"I think the baby is coming." That was when walkers started coming, I pulled Lori to me and we made our way through until Carl found a room and barricaded the door the best he could after we got in. We were quiet hearing walkers go by, and Lori started groaning and wincing in pain.

"Lori lay down, come on hun," I said and helped her down onto her back, she was panting hard. "Come on, get your pants off," I said and Carl looked shellshocked, he didn't understand what was happening completely yet I don't think. I helped her take her pants off to check her dilation. "Carl you're going to help me deliver your sibling okay?" I said and he nodded. "You're dilated, but not much, but I can't tell if the baby is breached-"

"I have to push, Y/N!" She panted and I hissed as I pulled her up.

"Okay, Okay! Gravity will help!" I said helping her as she stood and I told her to begin pushing when I squatted down to see what was happening, she groaned out, and then again but she screamed this time, I heard a slight rip, and I gasped. "Lori stop! Something is wrong!" blood began dripping down my hands and I began to shake, if I had to do a c-section, she wouldn't live. I had nothing here with me to suture, if she didn't die of bleeding out, she would die of infection in this non-sterile environment. She was going to die. And it would be my fault. I laid her back down looking at her dialation. "Lori, I'm going to be honest, you are losing a lot of blood and no amount of pushing with how dilated you are is going to help. the baby is breeched." I said and she looked at us.

"I know what it means and I am not losing my baby." She said and I looked at her shaking my head, tears rolling down my cheeks. "You will cut me open-"

"You'll die!" I sobbed shaking my head not wanting to kill her, I don't know if I could even see myself doing it through the tears.
