My Bidai was nothing like I had imagined it would be. It was meant to be a solemn yet beautiful farewell to my childhood home, but today, the entire experience felt like an elaborate pretense. My lehenga, was heavy on my shoulders, both physically and emotionally.

I stood at the threshold of my home, trying to steady my breathing. The anxiety was almost unbearable. Beside me, my Chachu's face was lined with both pride and sadness that seemed to echo my own. His eyes were filled with a sadness that I was certain mirrored the turmoil inside me.

"Urvi," he said softly, "Meri pyari beti, you know I've always thought of you like my own child and cared for you. Now you're so big Hamari Sherni (Our lioness). Take care and you know I'm always here for you."

(My lovely child)

I forced a smile, feeling the sting of tears. "I'll miss you, chachu." and hugged him.

My Dadi, her eyes red from tears she had tried to hide, pulled me into a tight embrace. "You're brave, Urvi. Take care of yourself and your new family."

My older brother, Pravin, stood beside her, his face a mix of defiance and sorrow. He reached out, giving me a small hug. "Take care, Urvi. And remember, we're here if you need us."

Chachi, Siddharth, Siddhika, and Ananya all hugged me and were sad.

I looked around at the faces of my family, all of whom were trying their best to mask their concern. My marriage to Akshay was far from a dream, it was a reality born out of family expectations and personal sacrifices. My heart felt heavy with the knowledge that I was leaving behind a life that had once been full of hope and potential.

Akshay, who had been standing apart with his family, finally stepped forward. His presence felt like a distant echo in the chaos of my emotions.  To him, this was a new chapter; to me, it was an ending I had not chosen.

As we walked toward the waiting car, the silence between us was thick and palpable.  I avoided looking at Akshay.

The car was decorated with flowers. I paused, taking one last look at my home, the place where my memories and dreams had once thrived. I felt the weight of my decision settle heavily on my shoulders.

Akshay placed a hand on my lower back, his touch barely registering through the haze of my emotions. The gesture was intended to be reassuring, but it only made me feel more isolated. As I stepped into the car.
