CASSIE HAD TAKEN quite a liking to Snuffles. She often snuck his meals at the end of the day because she was too worried about how he was just skin and bones. She hadn't told anyone where she was going and she hadn't told anyone why she left Hogsmeade a couple of weeks ago.

After they seriously interrogated her, she explained that she had suddenly felt ill and spent the rest of the day alone, which wasn't exactly a lie. However, they had sensed something had happened, specifically between Harry and Cassie. The boys had noticed how she was avoiding the Gryffindor table and common room.

"Cassie," George began as they sat in the back corner of the library, happily paired together for a transfiguration project. "I know you weren't sick; you don't have to lie to me, y'know. Did someone say something? If it was one of those Slytherin gits, you know we would hex them to"

"I was ill. And I can take care of myself, for your information." She said plainly, whispering the last part and returning her gaze to their project of transfiguring armadillos into feather-light pillows.

"You know I don't believe that. Did we do something wrong? Was it Ron because I can sneak a firecracker into his dorm and he won't suspect a thing-" He continued but Cassie interrupted again.

"Your brother did not do anything. Please do not hurt him, your mother will kill us." She said, finally turning to look at him. She took a deep breath, "My father killed the Potters." She said, looking into his eyes. "I had no idea," She continued, "I think Harry must've heard about it in the pub and then he was crying, so I went to go check on him and-"

George moved from sitting across from her and sat next to the girl, placing an arm around her and she placed her head on his shoulder. She felt his chin rest on the top of her head.

"What did he say." She could tell he was trying to keep a calm composure for her but she knew he was angry on the inside. Cassie did not want to cry again, especially not in front of George, so she took another deep breath and answered him.

"It was just like my boggart. He flinched away from me." She finally looked up at him and he saw the way she was holding in tears. He wrapped his arms around her as she shook in his arms. "He's scared of me, George." She could feel him shake his head.

"Now, I'm not going to defend that little git, but, I truly think that he was just surprised to hear the news. He loves you, Cass. Treats you like a sister, they all do." Cassie nodded.

Deep down she knew this, but hearing it from someone else made her feel better. Cassie didn't feel as if she was going mad anymore, having the reassurance from her friend made her feel better. "He's going to come around, I know it. But he better have a damn good apology for making you cry." She laughed silently at his words, wiping any remaining tears on her face.

"Thank you, Georgie."

"Anything for you, Cass."

The Christmas holiday had just begun and Cassie was excited, due to her father being a professor they had to spend the holiday in the castle. Initially, Cassie was a little upset, however upon discovering that her friends were staying too, she was happy again.

However, due to her recent discovery, she had been avoiding her father.

How could he not tell her something so important, especially when he knew how close she was to Harry?

She entered his classroom and he looked up from his papers, she assumed he was grading papers.

"Hello, my love!" He chirped, however his face changed once he realized her serious face and how she ensured that the door was closed. "Why don't we go to my room." He led her to his sleeping quarters which weren't the nicest but were much nicer than her dorm rooms.

Later, she had decided, she would complain of the injustices of it all but at the moment she had something to settle with her father. They sat down on his bed with a considerable space between them.

"I heard what he did. " She started, simply looking up at him and watching his face change. "Why didn't you tell me? When were you going to?" Her father took a deep breath and moved closer to her.

"I truly don't know when I was going to tell you. At first, I never brought it up because you were too young and I was still grieving. Then, as you got older, you were so happy without having to deal with it all. Then, Harry entered the picture and I didn't want you to carry the burden of your father's action." She nodded.

"I'm not angry with you, y'know. I just feel so stupid." She confessed.

"You, my star, are far from stupid." He stroked the back of her head comfortingly, smiling as she leaned into the touch.

"I didn't want to tell you because your father was so much more than those final moments. He was fiercely loyal, protective, and kind. He was so gentle with you and Harry. Your father would lavish you with gifts and would never let go of you for a second. I didn't want you to think that he was this evil person, because he was so much more than that." Her father affirmed, staring wistfully off into the distance.

He wouldn't let his daughter on his true opinion of Sirius' arrest, for now, he secretly enjoyed reminiscing of his adorable daughter.
