𝘾𝙇𝘼𝘿 𝙄𝙉 𝙏𝙃𝙀 warmest sweater she could find, Cassie braved the cold of late January to take a peak outside at the quidditch pitch. Although the previous December snow had begun to melt away, the Scottish air was still chilled. She felt her teeth chattering as she saw a familiar streak of brown hair fly above her.
She watched as he chased back and forth after a Golden Snitch, practically out of breath before he noticed Cassie below him.
"Always practicing?" She called up to him, arms crossed to warm herself. She could see a small smile at the corner of his mouth, but he was quickly distracted as specks of gold passed by his eyes. Cedric raced after the snitch, his Hufflepuff cloak levitating behind him as he flew over the stands.
After minutes of chasing back and forth, he caught it and landed to Cassie's right. "How could you possibly be sweating in this cold?" She watched as her breath materialized in front of her.
"Well, I don't see you flying like a maniac up here, do I?" Cedric ribbed, lifting his sleeves.
"You'll never see me flying, and you know that," Cassie muttered in response, kicking the crystallized grass at her feet. He snorted in response. "You know you can give yourself a break." She whispered as he turned to walk back to the castle. Cedric slowed his pace before turning back to her,
"I'll be okay, " he said before gesturing for her to follow him. Cassie was not happy with that response. "Valentine's Day is coming up." He was quick to change the topic. "Will Weasley be asking you to Hogsmead, then?" Cassie quickly turned her head.
"What is this obsession you have with him?"
"Funny you knew exactly which one I was referencing." She opened her mouth to chime in, but he teased, "It's more like the obsession he has with you." Cedric gave her a playful shrug, and she could only giggle and shake her head in response.
"Well, will you be asking anyone, then?" Cassie shoved him and giggled as he slightly stumbled. He didn't respond, and Cassie interrupted with a gasp. "You are!"
"Piss off." He murmured, smiling at the ground.
"Your cheeks are pink!"
"It's freezing out!"
"Who is it? Have you asked yet? Why didn't you tell me!" Cassie followed him, anxious with various questions.
"I don't want to speak on this anymore." He lightly shoved her out of the way, but she persevered and kept going.
"You brought it up!" The two were almost inside the castle, finally getting to the school's courtyard. The unfortunately familiar presence of dementors passed behind her, causing Cassie to shiver.
As the inside of the castle came into sight, Cassie walked as fast as she could to escape the cold. "Are you not going to tell me?" She continued, watching as Cedric's cheeks turned pink.
"I don't think I'm going to ask her." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't even think she'd say yes." Cassie turned to look at him incredulously.
"Have you ever met anyone in this castle who would say no to you?" Her statement was met with a silent shove, and Cassie giggled, following him towards their common room. From a distance, she heard a voice call out to he, and she turned around. Roger Davies.
"Cassie!" He called. Cassie knew Roger; they were seat partners in potions last year and had worked on several assignments together. They weren't friends by any means, but acquaintances.
He hadn't been completely awful to her, that she knew of, which is why she had always remembered him.
Roger was tall with dark brown hair and light brown eyes. In truth, he was rather pleasant to look at. The boy jogged after Cassie while Cedric looked at her with a small smile at the side of his mouth.
"You can go, Cedric. I'll be fine." He nodded and left her.
"How's your year been?" Roger said as the two began to walk around.
"Not my best." She replied honestly, staring at the ground as they walked.
"Right, sorry." He trailed off, shaking his head slightly. "Look, Cassie, I was wondering if you'd want to go to Hogsmead together during the next trip? In February?"

"And you said yes?" Angelina leaned over her food to speak to her. Cassie had snuck over to the Gryffindor table and knew her time would be cut short soon if she was noticed.
Cassie would have to be completely brainless not to know what he was insinuating the second he asked her, and Cassie wasn't completely opposed to it.
There was nothing wrong with Roger. He was nice, smart, and attractive.
Why couldn't she give him a chance?
"It's just one date; that doesn't mean it's going to go anywhere," Cassie replied, eyeing the Professor's table.
"Who else knows?" Alicia questioned.
"Only you two and possibly Cedric. I think he suspected it when Roger called me over." Cassie didn't know why she felt such a pit in her stomach about telling the twins. They were her best friends!
Why did she feel so nervous?
But as she turned her head towards where they were sitting down at the long Great Hall tables, her heart started beating a little faster.
