CASSIE WAS OUTSIDE the castle feeding Snuffles, giggling as he rolled around before her. She softly patted his head and scratched behind his ears, smiling as she felt him lean into her touch.
Something about the dog felt so familiar, despite meeting weeks ago. She felt as if she'd known him her whole life, which was oddly sentimental for a dog but he was one of the only people she wasn't avoiding.
Upon hearing footsteps, she quickly got up and moved into a shadowed area. Covered in darkness, she saw a familiar face and listened as he called out to her.
"Cassie! Cassie, I only want to apologize..." Harry called and she stepped out so he could see her. "Cassie..." She pursed her lips as a response, Snuffles shielded by the shadow of her body's crossed arms.
"Cassie, I am sorry for what I said. I was shocked at the news and should have never yelled at you. None of this is your fault and I never should have blamed you." He let out a puff of air before continuing. "I'm truly sorry Cassie." She sighed and opened her arms and he rushed into them.
"I promise I'm not scared of you and I don't think I ever could be." He murmured into her arm which only made her squeeze him tighter.
"I know." She whispered into his hair.
"I would never hate you." He whispered.
"I know." She said again, rubbing his back.
He pulled away to look up at her, she still stood about a head above him. "I was never truly mad at you. I know it was a lot for you to take in," Cassie added as he stepped back from her.
"If I ever see him, Cassie, I'm gonna kill him," Harry whispered, shamed.
Cassie swallowed but did not respond.

Christmas had come faster than Cassie had expected and unluckily for both her and Remus, it had also aligned with the full moon.
Donned in her Weasley sweater, navy blue with a capital 'C', she sat amongst her friends in the Gryffindor Common room.
Cedric went home for the holidays meaning she received her gift via owl. He sent a box of chocolates and a letter sending love from him and his family.
She had mostly received sweets as a present, which she wasn't exactly upset with, and an extra-large box of Sugar Quills from Harry.
"Consider it another apology." He said to her and she laughed before she tackled him in a hug. She could never hate the boy, he was too young and too innocent to be dealt such a difficult hand.
Cassie secretly vowed to protect him with her life, even if it had to be against her father.
She was practically drowned in wrapping paper and gift bags that were thrown around the floor, however, one gift caught her eye.
A box labeled 'Cassie', in a violet box stuck out to her and she hurriedly grabbed it. The box did not indicate who it was from and inside was a moving picture.
She couldn't deny its beauty but she noted how it appeared torn up and unkempt, with jagged edges and a dusty surface.
The picture was a beautiful starry sky, with a glowing full moon and little stars surrounding it. Etched into the sky was her constellation, Cassiopeia, and she smiled at the detail.
'To the moon and the stars' was written on the back in old cursive writing.
She traced over it with her fingers, memorizing the way it sat on the page.
This gift was intentional.
But who gave it to her?
She shook it off, for she had other things to attend to, but knew she would ponder on it that night.
Cassie said goodbye to her friends, picked up the large pile of sweets, and made her way to her father's room. He was in bed, a new scar on his arm and a darkness under his eyes.
"Happy Christmas, my star." He croaked.
"Happy Christmas, Dad." She smiled before plopping the sweets onto his bed. "You get first pick!" Cassie announced before hopping next to him. He groaned as he tried to get up and Cassie stopped him, already picking up the Chocolate Wands. "Don't exert yourself, especially after the moon and on holiday!" He shook his head at her.
"I'm sorry this isn't more of a celebration. Spending Christmas sitting in bed, eating sweets-" He frowned at her but she was quick to interrupt him.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." His face melted into a sweet smile and leaned down to kiss the top of his daughter's head. "Besides, you both know we love sweets."
"I love you, my star."
"I love you too, Dad."
