Zed
Luke cancelled his party, he moved it so he can focus on the match we have this weekend. He postponed it to the next Friday, and begged me to come. I haven't told him about meeting Tilly, but It feels like he already knows, since he keeps smirking at me. Anyway the match is tomorrow, so we are both at the gym practicing strategies and punches with our coach. Perfecting our technique and precision coach corrected our stance at least a hundred times.
"Okay, let's do it one last time, and then you are free to leave" coach says sitting down on a chair, in the rink.
I readjust my mouthguard and step into a protective stance. Throwing the first swing I hit Luke in his ribs. Breathing hard we both focus on the fight. It's not even important who wins it, we are training our defence and attack so the winner is somewhat irrelevant. After twenty more minutes of boxing, and a bunch of hits to the both of us, coach yells out for the end.
"You both did good" he breaths out eyeing me " Zed your left shoulder is always somewhat loose you should pull it up" he says and a glimpse of suspicion runs trough his eyes. He knows that is my injured shoulder. It hurts me to pull it up, especially when the hit is directed close to it. "I didn't notice," I lie " I'll be more careful" I reply looking at him.
" Zed" he starts, but Luke doesn't let him finish,
"When do we start tommorow" he asks and coach gets distracted enough to let my shoulder go.
"You both, have to be there at ten in the morning so you can sign in, and get your set list, you already know, each of you fighting and if you qualify, you go to the next round that sighs you up for the nationals" he takes a look at his notebook
"Now we all know you'll make it to the second round, so you need to focus, to win it, I say there is a good chance that you both make it to the nationals." He finishes smiling a bit.
"What is the competition like?" I ask thinking of all the guys we might fight
"Strong, but so are you" he responds, making me feel a bit less anxious ."Are you nervous" Luke asks after the practice, while I'm showering
"Yes what about you?" I ask turning off the water
"A bit, but it's going to be okay," he says thinking " hey about your shoulder man, do you think you can manage" he asks worried. Luke knows, he is the only one that knows about it still hurting, but he promised to keep it shut. This shoulder could destroy my career and I won't let it happen.
"Yeah, don't worry, the doctor said it's normal for it to hurt because I keep using it,besides the pain is not that strong" i gently massage the shoulder while talking
"Okay" he sighs
It's like twelve in the afternoon, so I have a whole day left to rest. I haven't seen Tilly on the bus today, it has only been a day since we introduced each other, but I feel like I might have scared her away. I'm leaving earlier today so I doubt I'll see her on the bus I'm taking. I'm alone now too. Luke already left, as Annie called him to watch over Kim so I'm alone in the changing room.
I should probably take my time and rest when I get back home. Packing all of my things back in my bag I take my earphones out and put them on. I make my way across the hallway and trough the door outside. The keys jiggle as I try and unlock the door. It's broken. The key only works in a certain angle so I always struggle with it, and I have to practically throw myself at the door to open it. Theo wanted to replace it some time ago, but none of us have the time for that so we just both silently struggle.
Stepping inside I take off my shoes and head straight to my room. I'm tired and in no mood to cook. I'll just order something I think to myself as I collapse on my bed. Scrolling trough my phone I get anxious. What is happening to Tilly, the image of her on the floor with bruised hand pops back in my head. It's eating me up, not knowing. It makes me annoyed that there is obvious signs that there is something happening, and no one helps her. I get it, she can't trust me I'm a stranger, but there is surely someone Lee close to her. How come no one noticed, or if they did why did they not help. These thoughts keep me occupied so well I didn't even notice Theo coming in.
" you want to eat" he says " I brought some Chinese food" he points to the food in his bag.
" yes thank you" I reply standing up,
