I raised an eyebrow in question and ignored the annoyance that I and my human were feeling, for there was no way in hell that I was going to let him take over as king. "Oh?" I asked, and he nodded in confirmation. "And how do you think you will achieve that?"

"By killing you," Gavin said with a sneer before he gestured toward my mate and her father, "and killing them."

Multiple growls sounded throughout the area when he said that he would kill my mate, and I couldn't help but narrow my eyes and growl while I took a threatening step toward them with my pack moving toward him as well.

"And why would you kill her?" I asked and bared my teeth in warning, biting back a small growl. "What has she done to you?"

"She exists," he replied and gestured toward her, earning more growls from us while we grew very protective of her. He looked at my pack with an annoyed look on his face before he looked at me. "She is a Schmit, Your Majesty," he sneered, "and she should be killed because of it."

"No," I said and shook my head, and he raised an eyebrow in question, looking shocked and impressed that I said no.

"Oh?" he asked and raised her eyebrow higher. "And why not, Your Majesty? Have you forgotten what the Schmits had done to us, to the kingdom, or to you, personally?"

Movement from my mate caught my attention, and I couldn't help but wonder if she had gotten tense but didn't say anything about it while I turned my attention back to Gavin, who didn't seem too concerned about it.

"She didn't kill my family," I said with a shake of my head. "She didn't kill anyone."

That I knew of...

Gavin sneered and pursed his lips in disgust. "I know," he said and narrowed his eyes until they were slits. "She is a weakling, a beautiful weakling but a weakling nonetheless."

Again, all of us growled because we knew that wasn't true and didn't like it that he called her a weakling.

She was not a weakling but was someone strong and talented and someone that could lead the kingdom by my side or on her own.

If given the chance...

'Your Majesty?' I heard this voice through a link that I had never thought I would hear from ever again. 'Your Majesty, can you hear me?'

'Do you hear that?' I asked my human form, confused. 'Was that you?'

'No,' Steven replied and mentally shook his head, and there was a bit of confusion in his voice because he heard it, too. 'It wasn't me.'

Gavin raised an eyebrow in question. "Oh?" he asked and cocked his head while he studied me with a small smirk on his face. "Do you not agree?"

"I do not," I said and bared my teeth while I narrowed my eyes and laid my ears flat against my head, taking another threatening step toward him. "I do not agree that she is weak."

"And none of you agree?" Gavin asked, looking at my pack and raising an eyebrow in question, looking very amused. "You don't agree that she is weak?"

There were a few murmurs of disagreements, and my heart grew warm while the pack stood up for their queen.

'Your Majesty, please,' the voice begged, breaking ever so slightly in defeat. 'Can you hear me?'

'Yes,' I said, answering the voice, letting them know that I could hear you. 'Who are you? How are you contacting me?'

Gavin tsked and shook his head. "I can't believe that you all think that she isn't weak." He placed his hand on his chest over his heart as if what I said wounded him. "Then, it's a good thing that I know the truth; isn't it?"
