Chapter 5
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Gadaza. Just the usual lang po ba?" ang waiter na lumapit sa amin.
Tumango si Mommy. "Yes, just the usual for me. Ikaw, Yara?" nilingon ako ni mommy.
The waiter handed me their menu book. This is an Italian- American restaurant and I have been here a few times. Luckily, I like the foods here kaya kapag isinasama ako ni mommy dito ay hindi ako nagrereklamo.
I enumerated my orders. This is a high-end restaurant and all their customers here are the elite people in the society. My mother came from an elite family and my father being a politician added to her influence in the society. The reason why I avoided going to parties with people their kind is because I always have to be careful not to stain my family's reputation and the name that I am carrying.
"Oh my, is this Yara?"
"She has grown into a fine young lady, huh?" the woman smirked and turned to me.
"Well... saan ba nagmana?" mommy grinned.
The woman named Agatha laughed.
"Agatha Samson, hija," she stretched her hand.
Tumayo ako at ngumiti bago tinanggap ang kamay niya. "Yara Gadaza. It's nice to meet you, Ms. Samson."
She laughed as she shook my hand. "I'm already married, hija."
Her laugh didn't seem like she's irritated, though.
I faked a shocked expression. "Oh my, my bad Mrs. Samson. You just look so fine at your age kaya..."
"I like your daughter, Andra..." lingon nito kay mommy. "I hope we can meet again soon, Yara. Maybe you can get along with my daughter and son," ako naman ngayon ang kinausap.
I just nodded and smiled.
Mommy was grinning when I looked at her. She knows I don't like rubbing elbows with rich older people. I like going to clubs better than going to charity events or parties with some socialites. Not all, but most of them... are nothing but hypocrites.
I am also happy that even though my mother loves spending a lot of money for her caprices, she also does philanthropic activities. It's just that... I hate socializing with people like them. Though on the positive side, at least even though they've done the dirtiest works the world has created and offered,... may nagawa rin silang tama.
Mom's expression suddenly changed. She's now smiling at me softly. "Can you come with me tomorrow evening, darling? Hindi naman tayo magtatagal."
Sabi na nga ba. "Si daddy?"
