The two girls found themselves catapulted into the same courtyard, but it was completely deserted and barren. The walls were neither decorated nor painted, and everything was surrounded by dry leaves. The princesses looked around, perplexed. "What happened?" Chloe asked, "Where did everyone go?" Red ignored her companion and stared at the watch. "Oh... it works," she said with an uncertain voice. "What works? And where are we?" Chloe continued, bombarding Red with questions until she finally replied, "Not where... but when."
Sitting on a stone bench was a girl older than them, certainly not a student. She held a wand and a book, repeating the phrase "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" until the book flew out of her hands and fell to the ground. "I wanted speed reading, not for my speed reading to take flight," the girl muttered, standing up to pick up the book.
"Um... excuse me, where did everyone go?" Chloe cautiously asked. "Everyone who?" the girl responded, visibly confused. "All the students of Auradon Prep, they were here," Chloe replied. Hearing these words, the girl looked puzzled. "What's Auradon?" The book slipped from her hands again. "Oh, I need to take notes," she said, chasing the book and repeating the magical phrase.
"Everyone knows Auradon," Chloe said to Red, "she's the only one who says 'Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo,' she must be the Fairy Godmother." The two stared at the spot where the girl had disappeared. "Maybe she hasn't become one yet," Red replied. Chloe looked at her perplexed. "What do you mean?" she asked. Red returned her gaze. "Look around: Auradon doesn't exist, and the Fairy Godmother can't do magic, clearly..." Red was expecting a reaction, but Chloe didn't respond immediately. "Really? I thought you were sharper," Red said, causing a challenging look from Chloe. "We're in the past."
"No..." Chloe looked around and noticed flags different from those of Auradon Prep; instead of the Beast's logo, there were two letters: M.A. "No, and how?" Chloe approached Red, who showed her the watch. "This is a time machine," Red explained. "Are you joking?" Chloe responded incredulously. "Does it look like I'm having fun?" Red replied, indicating her serious expression. "But why did you bring me back in time?" Chloe asked angrily. "I didn't bring you; you took a ride. This wasn't my plan," Red retorted. "I just wanted to stop my mother; I thought I was going back a few minutes to steal her cards, not a couple of decades," she explained, pointing to the courtyard they were in.
"I think the watch brought us here for a reason," Red continued, staring at the watch. "GIVE IT TO ME," Chloe shouted, lunging at Red, who dodged the blow. "I don't need the help of a goody-two-shoes princess," Red said, distancing herself from Chloe. "I'll handle everything myself."
"I'm telling you clearly, there's no time to lose, my kingdom needs saving. Give me the watch or I'll have to stop you," Chloe threatened. But Red ignored her, sarcastically saluting her as she walked away. Chloe, however, couldn't accept the situation and ran after Red, grabbing her arm. "Give me the watch," she ordered. "You're not on my level," Red replied, freeing herself from the grip and trying to escape. "I'll do whatever it takes to change your mind," Chloe declared, chasing her.
Red tried to shake her off, but Chloe appeared in front of her, pointing her sword at her. "What do you think you're doing now? Want to take me out and steal the watch? There's a word for people who do that," Red said, pretending to think, "oh yes, evil." While she spoke, Chloe snatched the watch from her hand with the sword, turning her back on her.
"Think about it, going back will only make things worse. We need to stop the Queen, are you with me or against me?" Red said, climbing onto a stone table. "I have to stay. If we're here, there's a reason," she continued, following her. Chloe ignored her, but Red didn't give up, grabbing a flagpole and chasing after her. "Wait, do it for the good of yesterday, today, and tomorrow."
Chloe pointed her sword at Red, and a duel ensued. "Why should I trust you? Your mother staged a coup. For all I know, you could stab me in the back too," Chloe said. Red struck Chloe's sword with the pole, causing the watch to fly up and get caught on a small statue of a winged horse above the entrance. "Think what you want. I'm not like my mother. Her hunger for power is too strong."
The two girls approached each other. "Alright, maybe you're right. To complete the mission, we need each other," Chloe said, lowering her sword. "Finally, you've put aside your pride and made the right decision," Red replied.
They ran under the statue, with Chloe jumping to reach the watch. After a few failed attempts, she managed to make the watch fall, which Red caught in mid-air.
As they headed inside the school, Chloe asked, "Do you really want to stop your mother?" "Yes," Red replied. Chloe seemed puzzled. "If she takes the throne, you'll be the new princess of Auradon, every girl's childhood dream." Red stopped. "Well, not mine. If I become the new princess of Auradon, she'll try to turn me into her perfect copy," she said. Chloe stopped as well. "And I will never let that happen," Red concluded.
"Okay, I accept your mission," Chloe said, resuming her walk. "Mission..." Red repeated, confused, following her.
