In her room at the Academy, Fay sat on her bed, surrounded by spell books and ancient scrolls. She was deeply focused on practicing a new spell, trying to perfect her control over transformation magic. Her hands trembled slightly as she waved her wand, trying to concentrate, but every time she tried, the magic sparked in small bursts of light without achieving the desired effect.
Her uncle Merlin wanted Fay to one day take his place as headmaster of the Academy, but she didn't feel ready at all. Every time she thought about it, the weight of that responsibility made her feel insecure, almost crushed.
"I'll never live up to him..." she whispered to herself, staring at the wand in her hands.
Just then, a sudden call interrupted her thoughts. It was a strange sensation, a magical call that seemed to come from afar, yet felt familiar. Fay lifted her head, confused. She sensed something powerful and irresistible, as if someone needed her.
"What could it be?" she wondered. She followed the sensation, closing her eyes and letting the energy guide her. And then she understood: that call was coming from Ella.
Fay quickly stood up. If her guess was right, it could only mean one thing: that fate had decided for her, and from that day on, she would become Ella's fairy godmother. But Fay couldn't afford to show up as herself—Ella would recognize her, and she couldn't allow that. Fay had to change her appearance. She couldn't appear as one of Ella's fellow students from the Academy. It was time to put into practice what Jane had taught her.
She knew she was still inexperienced, but she had no choice. She needed to look like an elderly and wise fairy godmother, just like the ones she had always admired in books. With her heart pounding, Fay grabbed her wand and looked into the mirror. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and spoke the transformation spell, "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo!"
She felt the magic flow from her fingers through the wand, and slowly, her young skin transformed into that of an elderly grandmother, with gentle wrinkles and gray hair tied up in an elegant bun. Her figure hunched slightly, and her voice changed, becoming deeper and more reassuring. When she opened her eyes, she saw a sweet, elderly fairy reflected in the mirror.
"Perfect!" she exclaimed, though her hands still trembled with a bit of nervousness. "But these clothes won't do," Fay looked around. "Oh, this will work," she said, draping a light blue poncho over her shoulders, tying it with a large pink bow at the neck. Despite her doubts, Fay knew she had to act quickly.
With a flick of the wand and a golden sparkle, Fay teleported to where Ella was: a garden under the moonlight, quiet and lonely. Ella sat next to a pumpkin, her face marked by sadness. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
Fay gathered her courage and appeared in front of her in a cloud of silver sparkles.
"What the heck..." exclaimed Ella, looking up. "Who are you?"
Fay smiled sweetly. "I'm your fairy godmother, dear," she replied in a calm and gentle voice, trying not to show her anxiety. "And I'm here to help you get to Castle Caming."
Ella looked at her in disbelief. "Really? But... it's pointless, the boy I like doesn't return my feelings."
"Every girl deserves a magical night," Fay continued, stepping forward. "And I'll make sure yours is unforgettable."
Fay knew she now had to prove her ability. With the wand firmly in her hands, she focused on what she had learned. First, she pointed the wand toward the pumpkin. With a gentle touch, the pumpkin began to tremble, then it grew into a magnificent limousine.
Ella stared, her mouth wide open. "How... did you do that?"
Fay, encouraged by her success, turned to the old dog, Toby, who was sleeping peacefully in his kennel. "The limousine can't drive itself..." she murmured, waving her wand again. In seconds, the dog transformed into a strong man dressed in a suit and tie. Fay smiled, feeling a bit more confident.
But the most important moment was yet to come. She turned to Ella, whose clothes were tattered and worn. "Now, the finishing touch," she said, raising her wand. With a fluid gesture, a wave of golden sparkles wrapped around the girl, transforming her ragged clothes into a magnificent blue ball gown, with silver details that shimmered like stars.
Ella looked at herself in disbelief. "I don't know how to thank you!"
Fay smiled, though with a hint of bittersweetness. "Be careful, though. The spell will fade at the stroke of midnight. You must be back before then."
"I will," promised Ella, as she climbed into the luxurious vehicle.
As the girl disappeared into the night, heading toward the Academy, Fay slowly returned to her youthful appearance, exhausted but also satisfied. She had completed her first real task, but she knew the path to becoming like her uncle, the great Merlin, was still long. And despite his expectations, Fay still felt unsure of when she would be ready to take his place.
Looking up at the high moon in the sky, the young fairy sighed. "One day... but not today," she murmured before returning to the Academy to prepare for Castle Caming herself.
