the silence is a bit unnerving, when he thinks about it. jake hasn’t been alone with heeseung ever since their ramyeon maybe-date (he still doesn’t know what to call that; no thanks to jay) and definitely not in his vicinity after such a serious incident, which has left the older vampire with zipped lips and an unreadable countenance, that jake has no idea how to handle.
he glances at heeseung out of the corner of his eye, trying to gauge his expression. this turns out to be a bad idea, because now that heeseung’s no longer radiating rage at the possibility of his coven members being in danger, he looks… uh, illegally hot.
oh my god, jaeyun, shut up. you can’t go around, drooling over him, like he’s a piece of premium meat or something, just because he looks good while driving. driving, of all things! but then, to be fair, he looks good while he’s doing literally anything; it’s not my fault if i find him attractive. oh, wow, did he just-
mentally slapping himself, jake tears his eyes away from the subtle flex of heeseung’s forearm muscles, as he turns the steering wheel, and tries to think of something less inappropriate.
dead kittens, dead cockroaches, dead frogs, dead-
when did heeseung roll his sleeves up? is he aware that being too hot is a crime-
“jake?”
“i’m just thinking about dead frogs, i swear!” he yelps, reflexively. “uh… i mean-”
there’s a short silence before heeseung lets out an amused laugh, and mortification begins to fill jake up, at a rapid pace.
“sunghoon told me that you’re a physics major,” heeseung says, still smiling. “i would have thought black holes are more suited to your interests.”
“you’re not wrong,” he admits, linking his fingers together in an effort to stop fidgeting. “biology’s no less interesting, though.”
“by the way,” he continues hurriedly, before heeseung can say anything else. “is this the only car you own?”
when heeseung had tapped his key card against the card reader of a sleek, black tesla model s, jake hadn’t been too surprised. not that the van wasn’t a great vehicle to roam the streets in, but he had figured that heeseung seemed like the type of man to have at least one luxury vehicle at his disposal.
“if you’re asking me whether i’m a billionaire like the vampires of fictional culture,” heeseung says, laughter evident in his tone, “then, no. i’m wealthier than the average upper class citizen of a developed country, but i don’t spend money on anything other than the essentials. this car is one of the few personal indulgences i’ve allowed myself.”
“oh. you can tell me if i’m being too nosy,” he says, hesitantly. “but, what is it that you actually do?”
“i’m an art dealer,” heeseung answers, easily. “it pays surprisingly well. of course, being alive for over two centuries gives me a major advantage over others.”
“holy-” he keeps himself from cursing with sheer willpower. “two centuries? that’s-”
heeseung throws his head back, breaking into a fit of mirth.
“why are you- stop laughing! no one told me about your exact age before! i’m allowed to be shocked, okay-”

heeseung parks the car, right in front of jake’s building, and despite his nervousness due to being in close proximity with the man he’s just realized he may have ‘feelings’ for, there’s no relief when he thanks heeseung for the ride before he climbs out onto the pavement, and makes for the stairs leading down to the basement.
