his nana had always been a sore subject to bring up, around his dad's side of the family. thanks to that, all he knows about the woman is that one day, she left her son with her husband, and disappeared. the only things of her, that were left behind, were a couple of pictures and some of her clothes. there was no note, no traces of struggle, to either explain why she left of her own free will, or if she was taken and couldn't come back.
the ten minutes he has to wait, for his mom to unearth the pictures that his dad still won't admit he cares about, and send snapshots of them in their chat box, feel like an eternity. after ni-ki was through with admiring the recent additions to karina's instagram page, he and sunghoon were shepherded out of the room by heeseung, to give jake some more time to rest. normally, he would have protested and tried to get back on his feet, but he desperately needed to know if the woman in the picture was his grandmother or not.
he strains his ears, for any sign that someone has overheard his conversation with his mother, and knows what he's up to, but everyone seems none the wiser to his intentions. as far as he knows, heeseung's bedroom is sound proof, but that doesn't mean it's fully vampire proof. his reason of secrecy seems highly foolish, when he thinks about it, though. what will it matter if his coven finds out that his grandmother was a vampire, who gave rise to the alpha of the aespa coven?
but, the question is, will anyone believe him if he tells them that he had no idea about his apparent lifelong connection to the undead, until half an hour ago?
as far as they are all concerned, he is some random human being who was turned, simply because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. what would happen if they find out that of all the faint memories he has been slowly gaining back over the past few weeks, there's one in particular that rings the loudest?
-you'd have made a fine addition to my ranks. it's a pity that you won't be alive to witness the dawn of the new age. an era where lee heeseung stands by my side, in solidarity-
he shakes his head violently, trying to will away the half-remembered sound of the cloyingly sweet voice. the more of his suppressed memories he gets back, the bleaker of a picture they paint. he has no idea what his sire wants with heeseung, or what she's been up to, for the last six months, but he isn't sure that he's going to be happy with the answer he might get, if he searches too hard.
he's still new and learning more about undead politics and history, but he's heard jay reference dark blood a few times. it seems to be an organization of vampires who have been campaigning for the disclosure of their existence to the human community, going on for a couple of decades now. in addition to that, there are stories of radical groups all over the globe, who believe that all humans should be treated like cattle meant for slaughter, and rouge vampires who infiltrate peace-loving covens, just to bring them down from within.
he doesn't know why he was chosen to be fed on, that day in the alley with the dumpsters and the rain, by some lone vampire and then, left to die. he doesn't know how he survived, and how he got turned, instead of becoming a lifeless husk of his former self, but will their alpha believe him when he says that?
they all think that he was bitten, and that his sire thought she had failed and accidentally killed him, which is why she ran. they don't know that he was actually left for dead, with half the blood sucked out of his body, while the other half steadily bled out, into the darkening earth.
will heeseung believe him when he tells him that he's as lost and scared, now, as he was, when he was a newborn vampire, barely days old, with thirst on his tongue and a snarl on his lips, trying to keep from ripping apart his own parents and his pet dog, in search of blood?
