Chapter 2: The Farm

*Ron POV*

We just met Shawn Greene and his friend Chet and helped them escape the neighborhood. Chet left when we met Shawn's father.

Hershel: You brought a couple guests.

Ron: Your son is a lifesaver.

Hershel: Glad he can be of help to somebody. So it's just you and your daughter then?

Shawn: Oh, nothis daughter. He's... Well, just some guy who found her alone.

Hershel: Honey, do you know this man?

Clementine: Yes.

Hershel: Okay, then. Well, if you'd like, you can take a seat on the porch.

Ron: Thanks. It'd be good to get off my feet.

I sit on the porch swing and Clem sits next to me.

Hershel: So, what is your name?

Ron: It's Ron.

Hershel: Nice to meet you Ron. I'm Hershel Greene. So what happened?

Ron: I was on my way home. I grew up in Macon. When I hit a guy, one of those things you've been hearing about, on the road.

Hershel: Sounds horrible.

Ron: I couldn't imagine what it's like in Atlanta.

Hershel: House is full up with mine. We got another displaced family of three sleeping in the barn. You and the girl are welcome to rest there. I didn't catch your name, Darlin'

Clementine: Clem... Clementine.

Hershel: I can't imagine what you've been through, Clementine.

Ron: I'm looking after her until we find her parents.

Shawn: Hey, Dad. I was thinking, first thing tomorrow, we should reinforce the fence around the farm.

Hershel: With what Ron here just told me, maybe that's not such a bad idea.

*In the barn*

Clem and I just laid down on blankets. I was tired after today.

Clementine: It smells like-

Ron: Manure.

Clementine: Manure? Like, when a horse, plops?

Ron: Just like that.

Clementine: I miss my mom and dad.

Ron: I bet Clem.

Clementine: How far is Savannah?

Ron: Pretty far.

Clementine: Oh. Okay.

Clementine fell asleep and so did I.

*The next morning*

Man: Hey, get up.

I wake up, it's bright and early.

Clementine: I'm itchy.

Man: Well you slept in a barn, little lady. Lucky you don't have spiders in your hair. But I bet your daddy scared them all away.

Ron: I'm not her dad. Name's Ron.

Kenny: I'm Kenny.

Boy: Dad we're gonna build a fence. There's a tractor and everything!

Kenny: That's my boy. Ken Jr. We call him Duck though.

Ron: Dodging or quacking?

Kenny: Quacking.

Duck: DAAAD!

Kenny: See? Word is you're on your way to Macon.

Ron: My family's from there.

Kenny: Well, Macon's on the way. I could use the could use the company of a guy who can knock some heads together.

Ron: I'll ask the girl first.

Kenny: Gotra consult the missus. I understand.

We met Kenny's wife Katjaa and everyone got to work. I decided to help Kenny with his truck when I told him about Clem's parents and he assumes I may have to raise her myself if I have to. I then help Shawn with the fence and talk to Hershel.

Hershel: You got any family?

Ron: My parents and brother are in Macon.

Hershel: Well, I hope they're alright. Can I give you some advice?

Ron: Sure.

Hershel: Let's say things get worse before they get better. You're going to have to depend on the honesty of strangers. And if they get to questioning your honesty, you're going to be in trouble. But at least you have the common sense to listen to a man giving you advice.

We heard Shawn scream and I saved both him and Duck from the monsters. Hershel welcomed us to come back anytime and Kenny offered us a ride to Macon.
