The compound buzzed with activity as the team returned from the intense HYDRA mission. Exhausted but victorious, they carried with them the weight of their hard-fought battle and the relief of having rescued the trapped teens. Amidst the commotion, Sera was a figure of quiet determination as she focused on helping Evie.

Evie lay unconscious in the makeshift stretcher, her breathing steady but shallow. The injuries she'd sustained during the fight were significant, and Sera's heart ached at the sight of her sister in such a fragile state. She had managed to stabilize Evie during their escape, but the real work lay ahead.

"Careful with her," Sera instructed one of the medics as they wheeled the stretcher into the medical bay. Her voice was steady, but her eyes betrayed the turmoil she felt inside. "She's been through a lot."

The medical bay was bustling with activity as other injured team members were attended to. Sera stayed close to Evie, her hands gripping the sides of the stretcher as it was maneuvered into a quiet corner of the room. The lights were dimmed, creating a calm atmosphere in stark contrast to the chaos that had unfolded. Dr. Banner and a few of the medical staff moved swiftly to prepare for Evie's treatment. Sera watched closely, her anxiety palpable. The sight of her sister-her little sister, who she had thought lost-lying so still and vulnerable, was a painful reminder of how much was at stake.

"Let's get her cleaned up and assessed," Dr. Banner said, his tone professional but gentle. He glanced at Sera, his expression softening. "You did well, Sera. We'll take good care of her." Sera nodded, her lips pressed into a thin line. "Thank you, Bruce. I just... I need to stay here. I need to make sure she's okay."

As the medics began their work, Sera found a seat by Evie's side, her gaze fixed on her sister's face. The machines beeped rhythmically, a constant reminder of the delicate state Evie was in. Sera's hands trembled slightly as she reached out to gently brush a strand of blonde hair from Evie's face. Minutes turned into hours as the medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize and assess Evie's condition. Sera remained a steadfast presence, her eyes never leaving her sister. The exhaustion from the mission weighed heavily on her, but she forced herself to stay alert. "Hey, Sera," came a familiar voice from the doorway. Bucky walked in, his face showing a mix of concern and relief. "How's she doing?" Sera looked up, her eyes red-rimmed but resolute. "She's still unconscious. They're taking care of her, but it's been hard to watch." Bucky crossed the room and sat down next to her, his presence a comforting anchor in the midst of her worry. "You did everything you could. She's in good hands now."

Sera swallowed hard, nodding in agreement. "I know. It's just... seeing her like this. It's hard to accept that she's back, but in this state."

"I get it," Bucky said softly. "It's not easy. But you're not alone in this. We're all here to support you, and we'll make sure Evie gets through this." As the medical team continued their work, Sera felt a small flicker of hope. It was overshadowed by the fear of the unknown-whether Evie would be the same after everything she'd endured-but knowing she wasn't alone brought a measure of comfort. The hours passed in a blur of activity and anxious waiting. Sera remained at Evie's side, her resolve unshaken even as the weariness began to set in. The battle was over, but the fight for her sister's recovery was just beginning.

Two Months Later...

The sun was setting over the compound, casting a warm, golden hue across the sprawling grounds. The peaceful atmosphere was a stark contrast to the turmoil that had come before. Out by the pond, a serene spot nestled among the trees, Sam and Bucky were enjoying a rare moment of downtime. The two men were seated on a pair of wooden benches, a comfortable distance from the water's edge. They were deep in conversation, their voices punctuated by laughter and occasional teasing. Bucky had his arm resting casually on the back of the bench, while Sam leaned back, enjoying the relaxed moment.

"Seriously, Buck, I thought you were going to fall off that ladder," Sam joked, recalling an incident from their last mission. Bucky grinned, shaking his head. "Hey, I had it under control. It was just one of those 'heroic rescue' moments you'll want to brag about later." Sam chuckled. "Oh, sure. But remember, I saved you from falling into the cactus garden."

"Yeah, yeah, thanks for that," Bucky said with a smirk. "And I suppose I should thank you for that extra dose of embarrassment." Their laughter echoed across the pond, mingling with the sounds of nature. It was a rare and cherished moment of normalcy. The weight of past missions and the stress of the ongoing struggle seemed to drift away, if only for a little while.

Suddenly, the peaceful scene was interrupted. The rumble of a car engine grew louder, pulling Sam and Bucky's attention away from their conversation. The two men turned their heads in unison, their expressions shifting from relaxed to curious. A sleek black car emerged from the trees and pulled up behind them. The vehicle came to a smooth halt, and the low hum of the engine ceased. Sam and Bucky exchanged a glance, their smiles fading as they looked toward the unexpected arrival. The car's tinted windows reflected the last rays of the setting sun, obscuring the identity of the occupants. Sam's brow furrowed slightly. "Not exactly the peaceful end to the day I was hoping for." Bucky nodded, his gaze fixed on the car. "Let's see what's up."

The scene was charged with a quiet tension as the car remained stationary, its presence a stark reminder that even in moments of calm, the unexpected could always come knocking. The sun continued its descent, casting long shadows over the pond as the two men waited to see who-or what-was about to emerge.
