"Bring her in," the cruel HYDRA scientist, Augustin Alder, called out from his lab. Two of his assistants brought in a young girl, only 16 years of age. The assistants lifted her off the gurney she was laying limply on to a cold, metal table. She was strapped down, depleting her of any movement and free will. Her hair was matted to her forehead due to sweat and her blue eyes looked pale from the sterile, dim lights of the room. As Alder prepares her IV, the girl whimpers. She has gone through this every night for the past 12 years, but that doesn't make anything less painful.

"Seraphina Blackwell. Report," the scientist said, devoid of any emotion as he got the brainwashing substance ready for her. Seraphina took a deep breath and listed everything she did. "Training from 0600 to 0800. Prepared and got debriefed for my mission at 1200. Left at 1300 hours. Target was General Sean Wessex. He was eliminated at around 1400 hours. I returned here promptly after."

"Good girl. We must remind everyone that the Avenger Killer will not retire anytime soon."

The girl winced, painful memories seeping through her mind's high walls. Alder turned around, syringe in hand. He had a wicked smile and Seraphina worked to calm her nerves. You do this every night. You'll be fine, she reminded herself. Then, he injected the chemicals into her IV. The brainwashing medicine surged through her veins, making their way to her brain. She clenched her fist, refusing to scream like she used to.

One of the assistants whispered, "Eine zweite Dosis sollte wirken, Herr Doktor. Sie hat sich daran gewöhnt." (A second dose should work, doctor. She has grown accustomed to it.) Alder's grin spread wider. "Mir gefällt, wie du denkst. Bereite es für mich vor. Jetzt." (I like how you think. Prepare it for me. Now.)

Seraphina squeezed her eyes shut, the substance finally reaching her brain. She knows how this works. They use different types of medications and mix them all together in order to target the hippocampus, the center of memory in the mind. But, not only did they make her forget certain events of the day and remember others, they had the worst of her memories play in her mind every night. She would have to fall asleep seeing everyone she has killed, how she did it. How she left their bodies for their loved ones to find. But she wasn't in control. Part of her knew, but only when it was too late. She had no reign over her mind for a certain amount of hours after the serum was injected. Depending on the dosage the night before, she would be herself for an hour to at most five hours of the day. She would know everything at that time.

The physical pain slowly faded, but she only knew that the worst pain was coming up. She lifted her head, trying to see why the doctor's assistants hadn't taken her away yet, and her heart stopped when she saw another syringe being primed. Her breathing quickened, but no pain came. Outside of the door to the lab, the four all heard commotion going on outside. The HYDRA members all ran out to see what was going on. Seraphina knew that this would be her only chance of escape. But how to get unstrapped? She whipped her head around and saw the syringe that was about to be used on her, again. It was laying on the table by her foot. All she'd have to do was slide it up to her hands. She wriggled and tried to yank her legs up, but nothing worked. Then she got an idea.

She started rocking the table back and forth, remembering seeing wheels on the bottom of the table. The needle started doing the same, getting closer and close to Seraphina each time. Finally, she felt the needle and lifted it, cutting through the restraints. It was tough material, but she was able to get through strap after strap. By the time she was off the table, she was panting and sweating even more than before. But she kept reminding herself to get out before HYDRA could get back, or worse; the serum kicked in.

Alarms were screaming all throughout the facility, red lights flashing. Seraphina's heart was racing. She didn't know where to go. But suddenly, she felt a strange pulling. "What do I have to lose?" she whispered under her breath and followed the feeling. After numerous twists and turns, she ended up in a long hallway. There was a big fight going on so the girl hid behind a fallen piece of the ceiling. She immediately recognized who the agents were fighting. Stephen Strange. One of the few Avengers who managed to escape her on the day of his friends' massacre. He was using his powers to make people fall through portals going who knows where. Then Alder appeared behind Strange with a gun. "Stirb, Hexer!" (Die, sorcerer!) the scientist screamed. As soon as he pulled the trigger, Strange flipped the gun around and Alder had basically killed himself. Seraphina almost started crying. Not mournful tears, but happy ones. Her torturer had finally met his end. She only wished he could have experienced more pain before his demise.

Her thoughts were cut off when she noticed a strange glowing coming from herself. Her hands were emitting a golden light. "Help!" she yelped, not caring who got to her. She only wanted to get rid of this stuff. She shook her hands, but it didn't come off, only mirroring the actions of her palms. She screamed again. "HELP ME!"

This time, Strange turned to face her. Her breath caught in her throat out of fear she would be killed too. He surely must have recognized her as the Avenger Killer. Instead, he looked at her in confusion and intrigue. Seraphina tried moving her hands again, but this time a large circle formed in front of her. Panic was overflowing her senses. "I CAN'T CONTROL IT! HELP!" The circle kept getting bigger and bigger. Now, she could see through it. It was dark on the other side, with a pond sitting calmly.

"Don't move! Put your hands down!" Strange cried. Seraphina was about to listen to him, until she heard a clock chime. It was 9 o'clock. The serum would kick in...now. She screamed, the memories flooding and she lost what little control she had gained over the weird portal. It swallowed her whole and HYDRA disappeared. There was only that setting she saw earlier, the cruelty that the serum brought into her, and the tormenting recollections.
