Bucky and Sam stood at the front of the briefing room, facing a semicircle of Avengers who looked both skeptical and concerned. Sera sat off to the side, her arms crossed and hands cuffed, clearly uncomfortable with the attention. She stared at the floor, avoiding eye contact with everyone in the room.
"Look," Bucky began, running a hand through his hair. "I know Seraphina's past is... complicated. But she's not a threat. She's a victim of HYDRA's experiments, just like I was."
Pepper Potts, sitting with a protective arm around Morgan Stark, frowned. "A victim who killed not just people in her universe, but us," she pointed out. "We can't just ignore that."
Sam stepped forward, his expression earnest. "We're not ignoring it, Pepper. We're acknowledging it. But she didn't choose this. She was manipulated by HYDRA, they were controlling her every move and choice. We all know how dangerous they can be."
Clint Barton, leaning against the wall, glanced at Sera. "What makes you so sure she won't turn on us? We're talking about our safety here. You heard the things she said."
Bucky's gaze hardened. "Because I've seen her. Who she is without the mind-washing serum she was given. I've seen her fight against the control HYDRA had over her. She didn't want to do those things. She's here now, trying to find a way to be free from that control. She's vulnerable and we need to help her."
Sera looked up, her eyes meeting Clint's for a brief moment before darting away again. "I never wanted to hurt anyone," she whispered, her voice shaky. "I was never given a choice. All I want is to be free of HYDRA and make up for all of the pain I've caused."
Yelena, who had been quietly observing, spoke up. "If she seeks redemption, then she deserves a chance to get it. Many of us have walked dark paths and emerged stronger."
Stephen Strange, leaning on the table, looked at Bucky and Sam with concern. "It's not that we don't understand, Bucky. It's about trust. How can we trust someone with her kind of history?"
Sam nodded, acknowledging Stephen's apprehension. "I get it, Doctor. Trust is something to be earned. But we've all been given second chances. Hell, most of us wouldn't be here if someone didn't take a chance on us."
Shuri, who had been silently analyzing the situation, spoke up. "If we have the technology to monitor her, we can ensure she doesn't become a threat. We can help her control her powers, guide her. Wakanda has helped one brain-washed assassin, I think we can handle another."
Sera lifted her head, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "I want to prove myself. I want to make up for what I've done. But I don't think I can do it alone."
Bucky took a step closer to her, his voice steady. "We can help her. Train her. Guide her. She's got potential. And I think if we peel back some old layers, we'll find a good heart inside of her. HYDRA tried to take that away from her, but they didn't succeed."
Hope Van Dyne, seated next to Scott Lang, nodded. "It's risky, but so was bringing in others who had troubled pasts. Like Shuri said, we can watch her to make sure she doesn't become a problem."
Scott Lang finally spoke. "We stand for more than just protecting the world. We stand for giving people hope. If there's a chance to save this girl, to help her find her way, we owe it to her to try."
Pepper looked around the room, seeing the resolve in her teammates' faces. She sighed and nodded. "Alright. She stays. But we keep a close eye on her. And if there's any sign of trouble..."
"There won't be," Bucky interjected firmly. "I promise you."
The tension in the room eased slightly as the Avengers reluctantly agreed. Sam gave Bucky a reassuring nod, and Sera let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Maybe this was a new beginning. But she couldn't shake the bad feeling that if she had escaped, HYDRA couldn't be too far behind. They often told her how important she was, and she doubted that they'd just let her disappearance be ignored.
