"Hi Rachel," Sarah said in a low tone, forcing a smile to maintain professionalism.
Rachel smirked, scanning Sarah's waitress uniform. "You're a waitress? This is the best you can do after taking our money? I mean, you attended the best school in the country thanks to my family, and this is it? How disappointing."
Sarah ignored Rachel's insulting remark. "What drink would you like, please?"
Rachel's words stung, but Sarah had grown accustomed to her cruelty in college. She focused on the $100 and potential future jobs.
Just then, a young woman approached, greeting Rachel warmly. "Hey Rachel?"
"Ruby!! It's been ages, how have you been?" Rachel's demeanor transformed, and she enthusiastically engaged with her. discussing a potential vlogging collaboration with Ruby, who was a YouTuber.
Sarah tried to slip away, but Rachel stopped her. "And where do you think you're going? Have you served us drinks?"
"I asked what you wanted earlier, Rachel," Sarah replied, struggling to maintain her composure.
Ruby looked puzzled. "You know a waitress?"
Rachel dismissed Sarah. "Please, I don't know her. She's just one of those charity kids my dad funded in college."
Sarah's patience wore thin. "What drink would you like, I need to attend to others"
Rachel slapped Sarah, knocking her off balance. The tray fell, shattering cups and spilling wine everywhere.
"You think you can talk to me anyhow just because you had the privilege to go to the same college as me?"
"You guys went to the same college? I see where she got the audacity from. This is why you don't let wretched people into your space, they start to think you are on the same lane as them" Ruby remarked rolling her eyes.
The commotion drew attention, and Mrs. Richard rushed to intervene.
"I'm so sorry, Miss Racheal. I'll discipline her."
"And how many times have I told you all to address me as Lady?! My fiancée is the Crowned Prince, I am soon to be princess!!"
"I'm.... I'm sorry My Lady. I'll have her apologize to you now."
"Come on, apologize now" Mrs Richard turned to Sarah
"She ruined my friend's dress with the splash from the wine. It is only normal that hers is ruined too even though the dresses obviously do not have the same worth."
"I'll have her change her dress now My Lady"
"What do you mean change her dress? Let her clean the wine on the floor with her dress" Racheal said
"But... she's.. she's wearing a fitted dress, there's no way she can clean with it while it's still on her"
"Let her roll on the wine! Do I have to teach you everything Mrs Richards? I think you don't like planning events like this anymore huh? How about I take you back to the countryside you came from? You can plan events for cow milking and apple plucking, what do you think?"
"You heard her! Roll... roll on it!!" Mrs Richards stuttered as she ordered Sarah. As much as she felt pity for Sarah, she couldn't risk losing the connections she had because of her.
Thinking of the hundred dollars pay, Sarah reluctantly rolled on the wet floor, wincing as shards pierced her skin.
Rachel mocked, "Roll on it till it's dry like your pathetic life."
Just then, Dennis's arrival was announced, and Rachel's demeanor changed.
"Oh my God! The prince is here. Enough, you can leave," Rachel said, dismissing Sarah.
Sarah swiftly exited, curling up in the kitchen corner, overcome with tears. After years of leaving college, she thought she had finally escaped the evil claws of Racheal, she couldn't believe she was still so much within Racheal's reach to be humiliated by her anytime she wanted.
Mrs. Richard found Sarah "I'm sorry Sarah" she said apologizing for not standing up to Rachel.
Sarah stood, resolved. "What do I need to do?"
Mrs. Richard handed Sarah an envelope. "You can go home early. The official party ends soon, and they'll have a private after-party."
Sarah left, her body aching, her mind consumed by rage and hatred. She vowed revenge.
As she walked, Rhoda called, inquiring about Sarah's job.
"Babe, you finally picked. Are you guys done?"
"Who's Dennis?" Sarah asked firmly.
"Dennis? Which Dennis?" Rhoda asked, confused
"Prince Dennis" Sarah answered as she sniffled
"Prince Dennis of Edmonton? He's part of the royal family. How do you not know Prince Dennis?"
"I know we have a royal family but I don't not know them by name. At least I know the King, that's all that matters"
"Well, the king you know happens to be Prince Dennis' grandfather. What's this sudden talk about him?"
Sarah's determination solidified. "I'm going to make him my boyfriend."
"Girl, are you drunk? You're going to date Prince Dennis?" Rhoda couldn't believe her friend
Sarah's resolve hardened. "Rachael is betrothed to him and she likes him, since I do not have the money or power to beat her, I'm going to take the one thing she cherishes the most and watch her world crumble at the sight of the Sarah she sees as an ant take her most cherished person from her. I'm not going down without a fight this time"
