**Eragon POV:**
As I gave Saphira (his dragon) the signal, Murtagh shot the Shade with an arrow in the shoulder and then in the head. The Shade let out a scream, writhed, and dissolved into a dark cloud. "You killed him," I said in amazement. Only two legendary heroes were known to have managed to kill a Shade. "I'm not sure," said Murtagh. A man shouted, "That's enough, he failed! Go in and get them!" Soldiers with spears and nets stormed into the hall. The soldiers pushed Murtagh and me against the wall as we dragged the still sleeping elf behind us. Suddenly, Saphira stuck her head through the hole in the wall and let out an ear-piercing roar. With her powerful claws, she grabbed the edge and tore off another piece of the roof. Three soldiers fled, but the rest held their ground. With a loud crack, the thickest ceiling beam broke, sending a hail of wood and stone pieces raining down. The soldiers were caught off guard by the shower of wood and stones, with some being crushed by the heavy debris. With one final act of strength, Saphira tore down the rest of the roof before dropping into the hall with folded wings. With a relieved cry, Eragon wrapped his arms around her neck. "I missed you, little one," said Saphira to me.
"Can you fly now and carry three people? We have someone else with us," I asked Saphira. "Of course," said Saphira. Murtagh and I dragged the elf out from behind us. When Saphira saw the elf, she snorted in surprise and said, "An elf." "Yes, an elf. She was imprisoned here like me," I said while helping Murtagh lift the elf into Saphira's saddle. Then we climbed on ourselves. "I heard fighting on the roof. Are there soldiers up there?" I asked Saphira. "Not anymore. Are you ready?" Saphira replied. "Yes, we are."
As Saphira took to the skies, I saw several soldiers' corpses on the roof. "Eragon, look," Murtagh said to me. When I looked in the direction Murtagh pointed, I saw several archers gathering on a tower. "Saphira, you must go now!" I said to Saphira. Saphira immediately flew off, but the archers were too quick. Many arrows pierced her wings. "How far can you still go?" I asked Saphira.
"Far enough," Saphira said. The remaining distance Saphira managed to cover brought us to a forest, where a beautiful girl around my age sat by a campfire, watching Saphira in astonishment.
("Should I write more short chapters or rather long chapters that take more time?")
