I stepped out of the car, my heels clicking against the cobblestone. The cool night air felt good on my skin after being cooped up in the car. Ishanvi came around to my side, taking my arm and linking hers through mine.
"You're going to love this," she whispered, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.
Mihir handed the keys to the valet and fell into step behind us, his presence reassuring and familiar. We walked up to the doormen, who nodded respectfully and held open the door for us.
The moment we stepped inside, the sound of laughter and clinking glasses greeted us, the low murmur of conversations from the well-dressed patrons.
The interior of the bar was just as chic as the outside - soft lighting, polished wood, and tasteful artwork gave the place an air of understated elegance. A live band was playing jazz music on a small stage, the smooth notes filling the room with an ambiance that was both relaxing and sophisticated.
We wound our way through the crowd, heading towards a table in a secluded corner. It was a round table, set with crisp linen and gleaming silverware, and a bottle of champagne rested in an ice bucket.
Mihir led me to a seat, and I sank into it, my eyes wide as I took in the atmosphere around me. This was definitely not the kind of place I usually frequented. Ishanvi took the seat next to mine, her face flushed with excitement and Mihir settled into his chair, grabbing the champagne bottle and expertly opening it. He poured three flutes of the bubbly liquid, the foam bubbling over the rim.
"A toast," he said, lifting his flute. "To our beautiful birthday girl."
Ishanvi and I raised our glasses, clinking them with Mihir's. The champagne was cold and crisp, the bubbles tickling my tongue. I took a sip, relishing the fruity flavor.
"So, are you enjoying the surprise so far?" Mihir asked, his eyes studying my face intently.
I smiled, feeling a bit giddy from the champagne. "I have to admit, this is pretty unexpected. But in a good way."
Ishanvi chimed in, "You haven't even seen the best part yet."
I raised an eyebrow. "There's more?" I asked, a mix of anticipation and trepidation coursing through me.
Mihir gave a secretive smile but didn't say anything, sipping his champagne instead.
Ishanvi leaned forward, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Just wait and see. You're going to freak out."
I took another sip of the champagne, letting the liquid warm my insides and help ease my nerves. The music from the band switched to a slow, sultry beat, setting the perfect tone for whatever was coming next.
Suddenly, the lights in the bar dipped even lower, the soft glow of candles casting flickering shadows on the walls. A hush fell over the crowd, the people in the bar sensing something was about to happen.
