chapter nineteen : endless questions, silent answers
the sisters sat silently on sapphires bed, both their minds racing, hearts pounding. draco was half out of it, laying on the end of her bed. his eyes would flutter shut but moments later, he'd sit up almost in shock, and attempt to stay awake. until, he'd end up dozing off again.
he wanted to stay awake and help her find answers, but his body wouldn't let him. he was near to exhaustion but no matter what, he'd try his very best to stay awake, for her.
"i need to talk to anastasia, now" sapphire said, tears almost forming in her eyes. she sat up quickly and marched her way to anna's room, lara trailing behind.
she banged on her door, both sisters standing there waiting for the door to open. moments later, it creeked ever so slightly open, anna peaked her head out of the door and looked to see who was there, upon spotting the sisters her lips formed a smile "ah, saph-" she tried to speak but was cut off immediately.
"cut the bullshit anna, tell me the truth." saph growled furiously, anna raised an eyebrow "what ever do you mean?" she questioned
"i want the truth, and only the truth. i've read the letters. i know everything. 'the prophecy'? tell me the truth." anna's smile dropped upon hearing this. "oh." she said, her eyes widening "you best come in" her voice began to crack.
the two sisters sat on her bed, anastasia paced around her room, biting her nails. her room was only a guest room, but had been done up majorly. over the years, no other guests had been allowed to stay in that room, besides members of the van helsing family. all windows were covered by heavy layers of metal, every piece of furniture was either a deep red that looked familiar to the colour of blood or a dark vanta black, the doors were large and reached the floor and top of the doorframe, allowing no light to enter. both sisters thought it was odd, but sapphire ignored it, she would rather focus on what she had to say than the decorum of her room.
"are you sure you're ready to hear this" anna spoke, her words soft but sharp. her face was stone cold. both sisters nodded, taking a deep gulp.
"the coven i spoke to are a very powerful coven. you may notice there are almost no covens around now a days, they're more a less a thing of the past. but the witches of this coven, they're a family, similar to yours. they originate from salem, it's a long story. I'll explain it another day but-" anna began to explain before being cut off again. "i'm not interested in some random coven. i want to hear about my brother." sapphire said sternly, her voice cold and angry. anna nodded and stopped pacing. standing still a front of them.
" i'm friends with a woman in the coven, natalie. i spoke to her about your mother and the twins and her coven came to me with news i had to tell your mother" anna began to bite the inside of her lip, sapphire leaned forward, desperate to hear the rest. "years and years ago. your ancestor, salazar. he was desperate to have an heir, so desperate he would do anything."
anna gulped, she stopped for a moment, considering if she should carry on. taking a look at the two sisters who looked so worried and desperate to know the rest, she knew deep inside she had to continue. "he met a woman, her name was sylvia. she was a pure blood and a very powerful witch. he began to form a relationship with her, he had became obsessed with her and mistaken it for love. she on the other hand, had fallen for him." sapphire gripped lara's hand tightly, the pair unsure on what to say.
"sylvia gave birth to twins, but meanwhile as she suffered through her pregnancy, salazar had been with other women. causing her to go insane, she had felt betrayed and so wronged. she murdered their infant girl out of spite, and was about to do the same to their son but
salazar found her just before she could. he brought her to a stake and began to light her in flames. but just before she perished she casted a spell that would last generations upon generations. the eldest born son of every generation was born to be evil. so evil that he could destroy his bloodline. the coven believes he posses something demonic inside him, something so evil even an exorcism couldn't get rid off.""oh my god." lara finally spoke, covering her mouth in horror. "how could she do that? to her own child?" she questioned, her eyes bulging in shock.
"the betrayal, the murder of her infant, tortured to death by flames. it's a trio of evil, thus causing powerful dark magic that she used to curse this family, that's lasted over a millennium. she most likely suffered from some sort of mental illness and salazar being disloyal presumably made her have a breakdown."
the room fell cold and silent. an eerie, horrific tension rose in the room. "i'm in shock" sapphire croaked, placing her head in the palms of her hands. "but. if it's true? why is my father not evil? why have none of my relatives ever been known to cause such mayhem if they're products of the curse" she questioned, her head spinning with questions and confusion.
"your father was a second child. his mother miscarried her first born, thus skipping a generation. your relatives have been known to cause evil but the daily prophet and ministry created coverups. your relatives have either ended up killing themselves, been murdered or mothers have miscarried, skipping the curse" anna attempted to smile, trying to ease the children, but her mouth could not seem to conform.
" and the ones who managed to escape death have either killed others and been sentenced to a life locked away in azkaban, rotting in a cell" the sisters looked at eachother with blank expressions, not able to say or think anything. "why do you think voldemort was so evil?" anna said firmly.
"why the first born boys? im confused." lara questioned, her eyes facing towards the floor, unable to meet anyone else's eyes." the coven believes if she had successfully murdered both of her children, the entire bloodline would be cursed. but due to her being stopped it created some sort of ripple affect. she wanted her son dead, and within her final moments she cursed every first born son."
both sisters sat in horror, their silence speaking a thousand words while not saying anything at all. the only noise that could be heard was the sound of the wind tapping against the window and blowing through the leafs outside. "it's almost dawn. i must go to sleep now. goodnight girls, try keep this to yourselves?" anna said, planting a kiss upon the girls foreheads.
they left the room, not speaking a single world. they made their way to sapphires room, draco was fast asleep in her bed. the sisters crawled into her bed, sapphire lay besides him, lara unable to sleep in her own bed. they both shut their eyes, drifting off to sleep. thinking of the horrors that they had heard.
A/ N :
wasn't a typical chapter. i was originally going to write it much darker but it didn't feel right.
