chapter twenty two : reprise"you like him. don't you?"
"no! well, erm. no!" sapphire sat on the edge of her bed, just like draco once had. it had only been a few moments since he had left but his absence had already began to affect her. she couldn't help but find herself re-reading the letter he had wrote her, her eyes glancing over every syllable practically over a thousand times. aurora had peaked her head around the corner and noticed her sisters actions, thus causing her to interrogate her.
"you stuttered. fess up" she joked, with a big grin upon her face. she walked towards her little sister and sat besides her on her bed, "cmon, im your sister. let's talk boys" she practically begged, scooching closer to her.
"fine. i do abit" sapphire almost mumbled, the first time she had ever managed to admit it or say it aloud. "eek!" aurora squeeled, wrapping her arms around her sister. "when did this happen! oh my goodness, me and cedric have always suspected it."
she rolled her eyes, before beginning to 'fess up' " well, i've always thought he was attractive." she began, aurora nodding in response, listening attentively. "but i never knew if it could turn into something more. this is going to sound silly but. when he first came in my room, i noticed things i hadn't noticed before. the way his grey, striking eyes managed to scan and observe every part of my room, how his lips would curve into a smile upon hearing my laughter. and, well, i don't know. i just felt something for him yesterday, something i hadn't felt for him before."
auroras eyes became more and more hopeful by every syllable, her cheeks cupped into a smile. "i'm so happy for you, the second we get back to school i'll have cedric talk to him, 'man to man' and who knows. maybe he'll confess!" sapphires eyes narrowed slightly, beginning to glimmer with hope
"i'm unsure if that'll go well. draco doesn't really open up" she frowned slightly. she wanted her and draco to be something more than friends, but she didn't have the confidence to tell him how she felt and she knew there was no way he'd confess to a stranger.
aurora paused for a moment. unsure what to say. "cedric can be... well, firm? sometimes. look, all we can do is try and if it fails we'll initiate plan b"
"which is?" the other sister questioned, beginning to become more and more unsure by the moment. "we'll figure that out when it comes to it" she smirked slightly, causing a laughter.
aurora sat up, beginning to leave. "aurora? i appreciate this, you know?" she smiled, nodding her head in understanding and appreciation. it warmed saphs heart to know she always had her sister. it wasn't often they talked about private things, but when they did it meant something deep to her. it really made her feel like she had something special.
the cold, crisp january air. it was a new year and that meant upon the return to school many students were wearing new clothes and had perfectly styled hair to compliment their faces. everyone had an aura of confidence attached to them, perhaps a sign of the classic 'new year, new me' people often attempted. it wouldn't last long. by the end of the dragged out, tired school week people would be their same zombie like selves. no attention to detail, no passion to survive. but unlike other people, the venoms returned entirely to hogwarts like they had once left.
when you spend years being homeschooled you have an eternity to rework yourself and become something of yourself. well, fortis usually returned to 'school' aka the home office, in his pyjamas but that's besides the point.
the moon was full and high above the school grounds. the slytherin girls dormitory bedroom had the curtains open so moonlight could enter the room. sapphire was sat atop of her bed, unpacking her belongings and sorting through letters she had brought. picking up the letters draco had wrote her, a smile crossed her face. she ran her thumb over the paper and leaned her head to the side slightly, indulging the moment with euphoria.
looking around the room she noticed pansy, daphne greengrass and a few other slytherin girls all fast asleep. a few were still tossing and turning but practically on the brim on sleep.
she got out of bed slowly, trying not to awake any of the sleeping girls around her. creeping towards the door, tiptoeing she shut the door behind her and was about to make her way to the common room. before she did so, she brushed her hair with her fingertips so it could sit nicely and straightened her pyjamas. with a deep breathe and a smile upon her face, she made her way down the stairs. she turned the corner to the common room, striding as femininely as she could. her eyes bright and lips pursed, her face dropped upon entering.
the common room was empty and there was no sight of draco. "oh?" she thought to herself, brows now furrowed with confusion. perhaps he was late. she sat down on the couch, legs crossed and held a pillow close to her. she sat like that for around half an hour, but still no sight of him. her eyes began to droop and she felt as though she could fall asleep at any moment. stretching her arms outwards, she lay on her side, head now placed on a pillow. shutting her eyes, she assumed he would wake her once he came. drifting off to sleep, the fire danced and crackled making it almost like white noise.
she felt the sensation of being shaken awake, a big smile crept upon her face, she sat up instantly. "draco! took you long enough-" she said sarcastically but her voice cracked upon opening her eyes. it was early morning and it was blaise who had woke her up. "huh?" he questioned, an expression of confusion on his face. "oh. i'm sorry, i thought you were someone else" she muttered, turning her head away. "it's alright." he laughed, sitting besides her. she felt confused, why wouldn't he have came? he always did.
"how come you fell asleep on the couch?" he asked, laying further back. "oh, i don't know. i must've just passed out. long day."
he gave an awkward grin as if he was unsure as to what to say. "oh, erm. i think you should get ready. classes will be starting soon" he attempted to sound less nervous but she couldn't hear the tone of worry in his voice. she hadn't noticed, it was like she was someplace else. her mind not sure on weither or not she was dreaming all of this or if he hadn't really come.
no. no way. she must've been dreaming. how could he not come?
