She was completely unaware of the body that was hurtling straight down on top of her until she heard the screams. When the girl looked up into the midday sun she saw it. Sun kissed skin, too many bloody gashes to count, shaved black hair and above all; the astounding, and majestic, white feathered wings sprouting from its back. She heard her name being called but they sounded so far off and hushed. All that she knew was that she couldn’t take her eyes off of the beautiful creature falling straight towards where she was. The girl shed a tear, for the creature was too beautiful a sight not to feel powerful emotion.

She spread out her arms in acceptance and there he was two inches away from her and falling at top speed. His face rotated towards hers and his eyes flared open, they were deeper than any blue that she had ever seen. Now only an inch away and about to crash into her body the creature grasped the human girl with his arms, drew her close to him and flipped onto his back. He bore the full force of the impact on his body as it crashed into solid asphalt.

Earth and dust swirled around creature and the girl as if time had become as thick and as slow as honey. They both gazed into each other’s eyes and spoke a silent language to one another. The girl drew her sight away and collapsed against the creature’s maimed chest in pure amazement. When the dirt had settled, others that surrounded them took in the sight of the unconscious girl and creature.

“What is it?”

“It saved Cora!”

“We have to kill it before it wakes up and kills her and us!”

“Quiet, Matthew. We’ll do nothing to this creature.”

The leader of the group ordered and ushered those to quiet. The leader gazed upon the creature, taking in his frayed and gory appearance. The leader took in the lustrous white wings that spread out before the onlookers. “We won’t hurt him in any way be-be-because it is an Angel!” the crowd gasped even though it was obvious that they had already come to the conclusion. Suddenly the angel stirred. Its eyes opened slightly. The leader quickly scrambled down into the shallow hole and took to the angel’s side. “Angel…are you really an angel… sent by God?” the leader spoke while soothing the angel with his voice.

The angel did not respond to the question. He looked confused when the leader spoke. “What is your name... angel?” the leader asked it. The angel finally met the leader’s eyes and sighed heavily. “I am Barachiel, the lightning of God."
