As the first light of dawn crept over the horizon, Sura gazed out at the endless stretch of the highway unfolding before her. She sat perched on the edge of the truck's passenger seat, her feet tapping restlessly against the floorboard. John, a kind-eyed truck driver who graciously allowed her to hitch a ride with him cast her a warm smile as he sipped his coffee.
"You sure you're okay, kid? You're going a long way from home," he said, his voice low and soothing.
Sura nodded, her eyes fixed on the passing landscape. "I'm fine, John. I just need to get as far away as possible."
He nodded sympathetically, his expression understanding. "Sometimes, we need to leave the past behind. Start fresh."
Sura's thoughts drifted to her friends back at Lake Crest Pack - Anya, Alexei, and Kat - who would be waking up soon, expecting a day of laughter and adventure with her. But Sura had made her choice, slipping away under the cover of darkness, driven by a desperate need to escape the alpha and his sick obsession.
Sura felt a pang of guilt and pain as the truck rumbled on. She knew her friends would discover she was gone and the inevitable heartbreak and panic would set in. Would they ever understand after finding out she left willingly, or would they just feel betrayed?
John's gentle voice broke into her thoughts causing her to glance at him. "You know, Sura, you're a mighty brave young woman. Whatever drove you to leave, I hope you find what you're searching for."
Sura's gaze met his, and for a moment, she felt a sense of connection, of understanding. "Thank you, John. I know I'll find freedom there and i think that's exactly what I'm looking for"
John glanced at the young girl quickly, he thought back to his little girl who passed 20 years ago at the tender age of 6. John couldn't help but feel longing for his child at the girl's sad, and desperate expression.
John sighed softly before sipping his coffee and focusing on the road, sura's foot constantly tapping softly against the floor.

As the morning wore on, Kelpie's gentle voice serenaded Sura, weaving a soft melody that wrapped around her heart like a warm embrace. The song was a gentle breeze on a summer's day, soothing her frayed edges and calming her racing thoughts. Sura's eyes drifted closed, letting the sweet harmony wash over her.
"Hey, kid, we're coming up on Greenfield," John said, his voice gentle, not wanting to startle her. "We've been driving for almost 10 hours, and this is the 600-mile mark. You've been a great travel companion, Sura."
Sura's eyes opened, and she took a deep breath, feeling a mix of emotions: gratitude, nervousness, and a hint of excitement. "Thank you, John. I appreciate your kindness and hospitality."
John nodded.
As the truck approached the outskirts of Greenfield, Sura gazed out at the sprawling city. A large bridge stretched across the water, leading into the bustling metropolis. Kelpie's song swelled, a gentle crescendo, as Sura's heart quickened with anticipation.
"John, where will you be dropping me off?" Sura asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"We'll be stopping at the truck stop just outside the city. You can walk from there, about 10-15 minutes into the heart of Greenfield," John replied, his eyes brightening with a smile.
The truck pulled into the bustling truck stop, Sura gathered her belongings and turned to John with a smile. "Thank you again for everything, John. Your kindness means a lot to me."
John's face creased into a warm smile. "You're welcome, kid. Don't be afraid to use that number I gave you. Call I have no problem with that okay?"
Sura nodded, smiling at John with fondness as if he was a long-time friend, with an overwhelming sense of gratitude, she shook his hand firmly.
