Forthwent, AlasiaChapter 17: Echoes of Pain
The woman's piercing gaze followed the human male as he entered her massive cage, carrying a tray of food. His kind eyes and gentle smile were a stark contrast to the cold, unforgiving metal that imprisoned her.
For the third time that day, he fed her, and for the third time, her bloodlust remained dormant. It was as if his presence soothed the beast within her, calming the savage hunger that had driven her to devour countless wandering humans in the past.
But her tranquility was short-lived. Her mind seethed with anger and resentment as she watched the wolves arrive, their curious eyes fixed on her.
How could they do this to her?
Had they forgotten the ancient harmony between their species? She, a daughter of Atargatis, the goddess of the sea, was being held captive like a common beast.
She sloshed around, her claws extended and aching. Her fangs ached to sink into their disgusting necks. She longed to remove them from this dimension and send them to meet their ancestors.
The wolves' questions and murmurs only fueled her rage. She wished to unleash the fury of the tides upon them, to show them the true power of a siren scorned. But she was too far from home, too far from the sea's energizing pulse.
Her powers, though formidable, were diminished in this desolate place.
As the wolves departed, her gaze returned to the human male, who lingered by the cage, his eyes filled with a deep sadness. She sensed no malice in him, only a deep empathy that stirred something within her.
For the first time in weeks, she felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps, just perhaps, this human could be the key to her freedom.
Lakecrest, Alasia
I huffed, clutching my belly "Christ this man intends to kill me surely" I scowl as we climb another set of stone stairs.
"My offer to carry you still stands" he calls in front of me, I sigh as I look around taking in the mountainside, my mind clouded.
I couldn't bring myself to let him hold me. I wasn't afraid yet the emotion I felt couldn't be placed.
"Mate" a sharp strong masculine voice called, I knew it was Kua and he'd come to comfort me.
I knew even more that my mate allowed me forward knowing I felt more comfortable with him.
The thought made me warm. Kua was a completely different person from his human counterpart. "I wish I'd met him first," I thought sadly.
"Come," he says out stretching his hand, I willingly took it and allowed him to lift me into his arms.
I sighed laying my head on his chest, I felt tired and closed my eyes.
My dreams consist of the cage that seemed to trap me and the overwhelming urge to kill the men imprisoning me.
Anger consumed me, why can't I escape this fucking cage!
"Wake up sura. You're almost there" Kelpie's voice called in the distance.
My eyes fluttered and a gasp escaped my throat. I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe wash over me. The Elders' haven, nestled high in the mountains, seemed to touch the sky itself.
The dreams were long forgotten, as the thin, crisp air, with a hint of mist swirled around me like a living entity.
It was almost hard to catch my breath, I wasn't sure if that was due to the low oxygen here or my pregnancy.
