Quidditch season had officially begun. Sam heard from her brothers over the years what "quidditch season" really means and only today does Sam finally understand. Students everywhere were picking sides for the game: Gryffindor vs. Slytherin.
Green and red flashed among the hallways, as people whispered amongst themselves on different players. Sam already had to turn down three different people who wanted her to buy green and silver flags. Of course, hexes and jinxes flew crazy over Hogwarts grounds.
Due to the long-drawn-out rivalry, and the first game of the season, it was a struggle to even just get to class. Flitwick spent half of Charms class reversing curses on Slytherin students, Melinda Zott in particular, who received a nasty curse that made her hair fall out like crazy.
Despite all this, none of the teachers seemed to mind too much about the house spirit. In fact, they all seem quite pleased about the whole inter-house competition. McGonagall and Slughorn in particular were rushing around during their lessons, even interrupting their lessons to boast about their team.
"This would be the 5th year in a row if we won-" Slughorn boasted one day before rushing off to help Celeste with her Wiggenweld potion.
Sam herself could feel the anticipation rising, as she herself was quite excited for the game. Of course, she already knew part of how the game would go, but was nonetheless curious on who would win.
Joining up with Marlene and Alice, she flung her deep blue scarf over her shoulder as the weather continued to plummet over the grounds. In the mornings, a thin layer of frost now appeared over the grass, as more students started to sit near the fireplace during mealtimes.
"Sam!" Marlene waved her arms, fully decked out in red and gold clothing.
Alice was sitting right next to Marlene had red face paint over her cheeks, holding Gryffindor flags that faintly roared every now and then. Sam waved, choosing to sit next to Lily who was just in her everyday clothes looking a little put out if anything.
"I see you two are excited." Sam smirked.
"Well, it's our house, is it not? Besides, I don't see you wearing any red." Marlene huffs, grabbing a bread roll from the breakfast table.
"I'm not in Gryffindor Mar!" Sam says defensively, fidgeting with her Ravenclaw scarf. Lowering her voice to a whisper, she adds, "I don't even know if I can sit here!"
"Don't be silly, it's just quidditch." Lily adds. To this, Marlene and Sam look at her with raised eyebrows.
"Just quidditch? Lily, quidditch is one the greatest games ever played. It's an art." Sam rambles, Marlene and Alice laughing at Sam's utter astonishment.
