My lips pulled back into a snarl. Wondering why I couldn't get rid of him, he was like a parasite. Popping in and bleeding me dry.
I knew in my heart not to trust him. Lith told me from the moment she saw him and his friends at the mall that she wanted me to keep my distance. But... Jinx. Quinn. They know him- didn't they? That's what he told me. I'm beginning to doubt the claim.
I stood tall and barred my teeth. I was in the lions den and if I didn't show a brave face now, they'd eat me alive.
My stare fell to the resin handled knife closed in my palm. What was the use of having it if I wasn't going to use it? Quicker then I could process, the blade was lodged in the boy's arm.
He scrambled back, spitting curses my way as he forced the knife out of him.
Blood spurting from the wound in a sickening spray.
"I should've stabbed you in the throat!" I snarled, "at least that'd get you to shut up."
Ian barked out a laugh, clapping me on the shoulder, "that's my boy." My body shuddered at the words, vomit creeping up my throat. "Calm down, Kota, you're getting blood on my floors and giving me a headache."
Dakota sputtered, pressing his new wound against his chest, "that's all you've got to say?! Put a leash on your dogs Ian. First that girl with her stars and now this."
Ian shook his head, "you're my dog, Kota. Stephen-Francis and Francesca will own my kingdom. Now, go fetch the boys while me and Lucariah have a little...chat."
I gulped down bile, holding onto the hope that the chat we'll have will only be had in words. Not actions.
Dakota sneered at me, stomping out of the room. His heavy footfalls echoing through the silent air.
"What do you mean Lith's missing? Why did you assume I had her?" He spit out, dragging me to the dining room; placing me on the table in front of him.
I swung my legs; distracting myself from his steel gaze.
"Speak, boy. My patience only goes so far."
My hand tugged at my hair, "my brother called me. He said that my father said she never came home after she finished off back at her dad's house."
His eyes narrowed, "but she did."
My eyes mirrored his, "but she didn't."
He glared in warning, "she. Did. I know."
My heart dropped to my stomach. A twisty, turny feeling that made me feel everything but at ease, "how do you know?!"
He laughed, patting my thigh with an open palm, "her and I go way back, my favorite boy." He leaned back in his chair, a serene smile that was equal parts reminiscent and longing took ahold of his lips.
