Hope is a dangerous thing. It is a blind faith that forces you to keep going, despite the aching of your bones and the wheezing of your lungs. Blood under your fingernails and dirt smeared on your cheeks, but you spit out a cracked tooth and rise from the ashes.

Unashamed and unwilling to admit defeat; to prove you are worthy of this life.

All because of hope.

Despite the war-torn world he had been dropped in with little context from Bunnix, Chat was hopeful that he could save her. Rena, the girl he knew, was still hiding deep inside of her. He would find her. For the fate of reality, he had to.

As the last remnants of the portal splintered apart into particles behind him, Chat ran his fingers over the metal of his ring nervously. The impeccable marble floor was recognizable as the interior of his house. His boots padded lightly against the staircase and he ran his hand along the bannister as he studied the room. But so many questions swirled in his head.

What happened here? Why was she akumatized? Who was she now?

Chat heard a noise and his thoughts quieted as his eyes lifted to the girl in front of him.

There she was, as perfect as ever. Her back was to him, as she stared out of the window mournfully. Her voice held a sorrowful tune, humming to herself under her breath. Every minute detail of her stance sighed in exhaustion, and his green eyes caught at the way the white leather crinkled around her upper thighs as she adjusted her weight onto one hip.

Fuck.

Neutralize the threat, restore balance.

But Chat was increasingly distracted by the color of the new suit against her skin, like her dress of that fateful night. Her secretive smile. Her heated skin against his fingers as he'd fumbled to undo her corset.

Chat shook his head, approaching her delicately. He had to remind himself she was akumatized; dangerous and unpredictable, but all he could see was the girl he knew.

Rena turned back from the window to let out a radiant smile, the glorious sunlight washing over her to blur her features in a white brilliance. Chat was speechless, stunned by the angelic look on her face. He wanted to bathe in it.

"Are you really here?" Rena mumbled, her smile turning melancholy as her voice grew soft. "I've dreamt of you for so long I don't know what's real anymore. Please don't be another nightmare. I can't take it."

His clawed paw pressed to her cheek, her tears wetting the black leather. "Rena."

"I missed you so much, Adrien." She whispered hoarsely, sniffling profusely. Chat hugged her, as she repeated his name mindlessly until her voice cracked.

Chat flinched against her arms, her words finally registering. "What did you say?"

"Your name." Her piercing blue eyes were unblinking as her arms tightened around him, her embrace almost painful.

Chat tilted her face up to meet his with a hand, his eyes widening. "How do you know my secret identity?"

She took a step back, her face hardening as she reached behind her for her flute. "You're not him. Who are you?"

Chat had never noticed her eyes were so blue. He had thought it was a trick of the blinding light, but her eyes were no longer gold. Her skin held a slightly blue hue. Even her hair was different, a shade of blue nearly white with frosted tips. Nothing about her was the same.
