Author's POV.
"Maybe I don't want to be yours," she whispered, trying to sound defiant despite the tremble in her voice.
Chapter25: The champanzee's dilemma: taming the brat.
Nathan's eyes sparkled with amusement, his lips curling into a sly smile. "Oh, but you already are," he whispered back, his arms holding her close. "You just don't know it yet."
Alaya's eyes flashed with a hint of rebellion, a hint of defiance, but Nathan's gaze held hers, his eyes burning with intensity. She knew she was fighting a losing battle, but she couldn't help trying to resist the pull of his love. She tried to look away, but couldn't. He had her trapped, body and soul.
"Fine," she whispered finally, her voice barely audible. "Maybe I am yours."
Nathan's smile grew wider, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I knew it," he whispered, his lips brushing against her ear. "You can't resist me, Alaya."
Alaya's face grew hot with embarrassment, but she couldn't deny it. She was his, body and soul. She had tried to fight it, but Nathan's love had consumed her.
"I hate it," she whispered, trying to sound convincing.
Nathan chuckled, his arms holding her close. "You don't," he whispered back. "You love it. You love me."
Alaya's eyes dropped, her lashes hiding her gaze. "Maybe," she whispered finally, her voice barely audible.
Nathan's lips brushed against hers, his kiss gentle. "I'll take that as a yes," he whispered, his eyes sparkling with triumph.
She smiled and kissed him back.
It felt good to be finally his after all the tom and jerry fights they had.
.
.Alaya nuzzled her face into Nathan's chest.
He thought she'd again act cocky after the second kiss but she had caught him off guard by hugging him in a soft grip.
She let her defences down and confessed.
"I love you too Nathan. More than I thought."
His heart skipped a beat as she confessed. He was beaming in joy.
"Took you long to say that." He said and wrapped his arms around her waist.
She smiled shyly at the new sensation.
"How could I say this earlier? You were being too bossy." She mocked in a teasing tone.
"Oh really?" He asked, trying to move her away from his chest but she clunged into him like a koala.
"Uh uh." She replied in positive.
Nathan chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, so you think you're better than me, huh?"
Alaya nodded, her smile turning into a pout. "I know I'm better than you. I'm the best, actually."
Nathan laughed, shaking his head. "You're something else, Alaya. I'll give you that."
Alaya huffed, "I'm something else? What's that supposed to mean?"
Nathan grinned mischievously. "It means you're a handful, that's what it means. But I like it."
Alaya looked up from his chest. "Yeah, well, someone has to keep you in line." She said, squinting her eyes at him.
Nathan snorted. "Like anyone can keep me in line."
Alaya raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I don't know...I think I do a pretty good job of it."
Nathan chuckled, pulling her into a playful hug again. "Yeah, maybe you do."
She nuzzled her face while blushing but then she suddenly realised where she was.
She wiggled on his lap, trying to move away.
"What happened to you all of a sudden?" He asked, confused. He was annoyed too because as she wiggled, his crotch hardened and he felt adrenaline rush to his nerves.
Alaya's eyes darted towards the window, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if someone sees us? Or walks in on us?"
Nathan's chuckle was low and husky as he flicked her forehead. "Relax, I've got us covered. I always lock the door when you're in here."
Alaya's eyes sparkled with amusement. "You're such a pervert," she teased, her voice louder now.
Nathan's finger pressed against her lips, silencing her. "Shh, no need to broadcast it. And just so you know, my doors aren't soundproof."
Alaya settled back into his lap, her curiosity getting the better of her. "So, why'd you lock the door?"
Nathan's shrug was nonchalant, but his eyes gleamed with mischief. "Maybe I wanted to be prepared... for when you finally confess your feelings."
Alaya's face flushed as she looked away, her nose scrunched in embarrassment. Nathan's chuckle was triumphant.
"I should go, it's my first case. I need to work hard" Alaya said with determination.
Nathan reluctantly left her and she stood up, smoothing her dress.
Nathan eyes were never leaving hers. He walked her to the door, his hand on the small of her back.
As they reached the door, Nathan turned her around, his eyes burning with intensity. Alaya's heart skipped a beat as he leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear.
"I'll be thinking about you," he whispered, his breath sending shivers down her spine.
Alaya's cheeks flushed, her pulse pounding in her veins. She didn't say a word, just nodded slightly.
Nathan's eyes locked on hers, his gaze holding her captive. Then, he stepped back, his hand falling away from her back.
Alaya turned and walked out of the office, leaving Nathan standing alone, his eyes fixed on the door.
Nathan's POV.
I chuckled as I remembered how my lips were on hers just some minutes ago, the way we kissed, the way she kissed me back and the way her hands grasped my blazer for dear life.
I couldn't help but touch my lips with my index finger.
"She's finally mine." I whispered and smiled in excitement.
The first time I'm so excited.
I looked at my screensaver of my laptop.
"She's enchanting." I whispered while caressing her picture.
Just then my phone ringed.
"Hello?" I spoke after clearing my throat.
"Hello little." Joseph said from the other side.
My jaw clenched as he spoke.
"What's the matter?" I asked, trying my best to act professional.
"We have to attend a birthday party tomorrow." He said.
" We? There's no we. It's only you attending that fool's birthday party." I replied rudely.
"He's our uncle." He said.
I scoffed.
"Not our uncle. Only yours because he only insulted my potentials since young." I replied and ended the call.
My anger was reaching the roof now as I recalled, as I remembered how my uncle insulted me when I was young, how he continuously doubted my potentials and made my dad send me to a boarding school, making me crave for my parent's warmth, begging for it.
I always dreamed of being a buisnessman but my dad dragged me to this law shit. It hurts me to know that I had to let go of all of my dreams and hobbies to become his puppet.
And now, I'm 28. I can't reverse the time and get a degree in business. All I can do is get better at law than my father so I take my revenge.
That made me think about how this party is a perfect opportunity for me to flaunt my achievements.
And also my partner, Alaya.
