When you find the person you fall in love with the world seems brighter, you are just generally happier all the time. That unfortunately wasn't what happened when I fell in love with Ben. I loved Ben, or at least I thought I did. When Ben and I started dating we were your typical in love couple, but one day something snapped in Ben. Something changed. That once sparkle of happiness turned to revenge and destruction driven. That's when our relationship took a hit, not only did our relationship take a hit, I got hit repeatedly day in and day out. The only person that knows that Ben is an abusive boyfriend is my best friend Derek Hale.

I was spending the afternoon with Derek, we were sitting on his couch watching movies when my phone rang. We paused the movie so I could answer it. Without thinking I answered it, turns out it was Ben.

"Where the hell are you Natalie?" Ben slurred

"Ben are you intoxicated?" I asked

"No! Now get your ass here before I come and get you." He yelled down the phone

"Ben I am not coming home, I am with Derek." I explained, instantly regretting my decision to tell him that I was spending time with Derek.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING WITH THAT FUCK BOY?" Ben bellowed

"Because he is my best friend and unlike you, he actually cares about me." I yelled back

"Get your wimpy little ass back here now or else." Ben said

"Or else what Ben, you will come and get me? I would love to see you try." I yelled

"Ok maybe I will then," Ben screamed back at me

"Go to hell Ben." I screamed before hanging up the phone.

"I am guessing you heard that," I said, Derek nodded. I knew he heard me even if I said that softly because of his werewolf hearing.

"I won't let that dick face hurt you Nat," Derek said comforting me

"Thanks Der-Bear you are truly the best," I said hugging my best friend.

"Anything to keep you happy Nat," Derek said. The two of sat there talking about anything and everything, like you do with your best friend. Within 10 minutes of the phone call, Ben barged through Derek's loft door ranting about bullshit as normal.

"I told you to leave me alone Ben." I said standing up

"Get over here you little wimp," Ben shouted I went to step forward only to be stopped by Derek standing in front of me, growling. Derek of protecting me from anything Ben could do to me.

"Back of prick, leave Nat alone." Derek said

"What's he your bodyguard? If you haven't notice Natalie I am not scarred of anybody." Ben yelled, saying my name with such poison in his voice.

"You will be scarred of me after what I do to you mate." Derek said moving forward a few steps.

"Derek, don't he is not worth it." I said

"He is a prick Nat, he deserves what I give to him." Derek explained,

"Come on Natalie, let's see who the real man is." Ben said

"Hey Ben, guess what," Derek said.

"WHAT?" Ben yelled,

"I am going to rip your throat out with my teeth!" Derek said before lunging towards Ben.

After 20 minutes of Derek and Ben fighting, Derek punched Ben in the nose instantly breaking it before Ben ran away.

"He can't protect you forever Natalie, I will be back." Ben shouted as he ran out Derek's door.

"Thank you Derek" I said instantly wrapping him in a hug.

"I told you I will protect you no matter what Nat, I mean it." Derek said hugging me back. Derek and I sat back down on the couch but this time I was wrapped up in Derek's arms. I felt safe for the first time since I started dating Ben. Derek had protected me when he didn't need to but I guess that's what you do for a person you see as your sister. I wished Derek didn't think of me as his sister because for some reason I have these underlying feeling towards Derek that a sister would not be allowed to feel towards a brother. No these feelings are of those that you have for a boyfriend.

"Can I tell you something Nat?" Derek asked interrupting me from my thoughts.

"Sure Der-Bear you can tell me anything remember." I said and Derek nodded,

"Yeah I know." He started

"Ok this is going to sound super crazy and you will probably hate me after this but Scott said to just go for it." Derek said

"What are you trying to say Der-Bear?" I asked confused

"Look I love you Nat, and not in the way that a brother loves his sister. No, this is the way that I would love a girlfriend. What I am trying to say Nat is that you are always on my mind, when I wake up in the morning the first thing I think of is you. When I go to sleep at night the last thing I think of is you. I love you Nat, I always have and always will." Derek said, I leaned forward and kissed Derek on the lips, at first Derek was stiff but then he relaxed into the kiss making me melt even more. I pulled back to catch my breath,

"Does that mean you like me too?" Derek asked cheekily

"Of course I like you Der-Bear, I love you in fact." I said kissing him again, this time the kiss had more passion and lust to it which made my heart to beat out of my chest. Derek pulled back,

"Natalie, will you be my girlfriend?" Derek asked me, causing my heart to beat out of my chest yet again.

"By the sound of your heartbeat I take it as a yes." Derek said smirking at me

"Of course it is yes silly," I said before we kiss again,

"I love you Nat," Derek said onto my lips,

"I love you to Der-Bear." I said before cuddling into his side and watching movies into the night with my werewolf boyfriend.
