10 years since the previous events of Twisters.
"Come on, baby!" Kate Owens, previously known as Kate Carter, cheered for her daughter from the stands of a small town rodeo arena. "Let's go, Cal!" She heard her husband, Tyler, yell from the arena gate. "Next up in the barrel racing, we have another born and raised Oklahoma cowgirl, Callie Owens! Don't blink, folks! You might miss her!" The announcer exclaimed. Kate, along with the rodeo crowd, erupted into a wild exclamation of cheers and shouting as Callie and her pure black horse flew into the arena. Kate watched excitedly as they turned each barrel, clapping happily when the barrel stayed standing. "She's coming to the third now, y'all! Get ready to help 'em home!" The announcer told the crowd as Callie and her powerful animal approached the third, the sounds of the audience boosting their confidence. They turned the third barrel, the stirrup of Callie's saddle clinking against it, causing it to rock forward. Callie pushed the barrel back in place with her hand, keeping it from tipping over as she and her horse booked it to the timers. "Run like the wind, Cal!" Tyler shouted as Callie pushed her horse faster for the final sprint. "Take her home, Callie! Let her run!" Kate yelled as Callie and her mare crossed the timer, stopping the clock. "Would you look at that, folks! Callie Owens is the new leader with a time of 14.259, a brand new arena record!" The announcer excitedly called out, the audience going into a frenzy of applause. Kate jumped up and down, she saw her husband run after their daughter excitedly as she and her black mare trotted out of the arena. With a large smile, Kate ran down out of the bleachers to meet up with her family. She found them back at their truck and trailer, happy giving Callie's horse rubs and pats. Once her daughter noticed her, she ran up and jumped into Kate's arms. "You did it! I am so proud of you!" Kate praised. "Thanks, mom! Storm must be living up to her name, because she ran home like lightning!" Callie said, still ecstatic about how they did. "Yeah, this horse here is definitely something. Ain't you, Stormy?" Callie's dad commented, giving the horse another pat. After the rodeo ended, it was time for the awards ceremony. Callie had won a brand new saddle and a check for a fair amount of money, she needed to be there to receive them. "How 'bout you and your dad head up and go get your prizes? I'll get Storm taken care of and start getting ready to head out." Kate told her daughter. "Alright, sounds good! Dad can carry the saddle back for me then." Callie answered, chuckling as she grabbed her dad's hand. They started to walk back to the arena, Kate smiled as she watched them go. Kate decided to stay in Oklahoma with Tyler, which turned out to be the best decision she's ever made. After a couple years of dating and chasing storms, she and Tyler got married, settled down and adopted Callie, who was now just shy of sixteen. She and her husband had both gotten pretty quiet jobs, she was a meteorologist and Tyler became an auto mechanic for a local shop. Plus, watching her daughter grow up competing in Junior Rodeo was such a joy, she never knew how much she'd enjoy a quiet life being a mom. As she brushed out Callie's black mare and began to pack, a strong wind kicked up. It reminded Kate of her days storm chasing, she couldn't help but miss the thrill. She quickly stopped her reminiscing when she saw her husband and Callie coming back, laughing about something one of them had said. "What are you two laughing about?" She asked with a smile "Dad nearly tripped in front of everybody when picking up my saddle, it was hysterical!" Callie explained, still giggling. "It was embarrassing, that's what it was." Her dad followed up, walking over to the trailer and loading his daughter's new saddle inside. "Well everything's almost ready to go. You should probably load Storm up, make sure she has hay." Kate told Callie. Callie nodded and walked over to her horse, giving her a hug before putting her in the trailer. Storm had plenty of hay and water, so Callie shut the trailer doors and locked everything up. Her parents finished packing and her dad started the truck, they were happy to head home after a long day. Callie jumped into the backseat and buckled up as her dad pulled out of the parking lot, just as the sun disappeared behind the horizon. Callie excitedly texted her uncle, Javi, telling him how she did as they got onto the road. She smiled at his reply of "Aye! Totally awesome, kiddo! Wish I could have seen it, way to kick some ass!" Javi wasn't her actual uncle, she called him that because he was a close friend of the family, but he definitely felt like one to her. He came to any rodeos he could, but he was quite busy with storm chasing these days. She texted him back a smiley face and a heart, then shut off her phone to look out the window, watching what was left of the sun's light as it sunk out of view.
