Later that day, Maya was at home getting ready to go over to Riley's. She felt almost as nervous as when she was getting ready to go over to Riley's five weeks ago to tell her the news. Maya treid to tell herself this wouldn't be that bad, but she really wanted Riley to forgive her tonight. She needed someone to talk to that wasn't Lucas or her mom. She needed her best friend back.

"Mom, I'm going over to Riley's. I'll be back...well I don't know when I'll be back but I'm sure I'll be back eventually," Maya told her mother who was watching TV on the couch.

She opened the door to leave but was stopped by her mother's response.

"Hang on a second, Maya. The last time you went to Riley's you went missing for a night. You need to promise you'll come home tonight. Promise?" Katy asked.

Maya was hugely touched that she cared enough to issue a warning. She assumed it was because her mother knew that Maya running away that time was partly her mother's fault.

"Promise," Maya called as she closed the door.

Maya's heart was in her mouth as she opened the door to Riley's room. She was laying on her bed reading a book. Maya sat on the window. Riley wasn't ready for Maya to just jump into her personal space yet.

"You said you needed to talk to me?" Riley said. She didn't sound mad or sad or anything, really.

"Yeah, I guess you probably figured, but I'm here to apologize," Maya started.

"Why'd you wait so long?" Riley asked.

"Your dad said you'd want time to cool down. I thought I'd leave you alone for a while. I'm here now, though," Maya explained.

"Alright, I'm listening," Riley said.

Maya was nervous, but she'd prepared for this. She'd arranged her thoughts in her head and knew what she wanted to say. She stood up and began her speech.

"Great. This is gonna be full disclosure. No sugar coating. Let's start at the beginning. I never meant to do anything with Lucas. I invited him back to my apartment that day because you weren't around and I was bored. I never should've let it get as far as it did, and that's reason number 1 why I'm sorry.
Reason number 2: I'm sorry that it's Lucas. I know how you feel about him, I knew it that night, and I did it anyway. I wish so much that it could be anyone else but Lucas, but its not. I know that sucks for you, but what's done is done and it's just too late. I'm sorry.
Reason number 3: I'm sorry for not telling you sooner. I wish you could've been with me when I found out. I thought I'd be better off alone, but I was wrong. I wish I would've included you.
Reason number 4: I'm sorry about the way I told you. I feel like I should've handled it better. I wish I didn't leave when you told me to. I should've said all this then and not now. Maybe you did need time to process, I don't know. Anyway, I'm sorry about how I handled that.
Reason number 5: I'm sorry I spent so much time with Lucas these past few weeks. I kinda had to, because there's a lot of stuff that we need to work out, but I'm sure it only added insult to injury for you. I'm sorry about that.
Reason number 6: I'm sorry- damn it, what was the next reason? Oh, I'm sorry I didn't invite you to come find out the gender. I know you probably wouldn't have come anyway, but I should've given you the option.
Reason number 7: I'm sorry I was a bad best friend. I'm sorry I did to you what you would never do to me.
Reason number 8: I'm sorry if I've hurt you in any other ways other than the obvious.
And finally, reason number 9: I'm sorry that I can never be fully sorry for what I did. I can never fully regret what I did, because I love this baby, Riley. I can't regret making my baby. I just can't.
So there you go. Full disclosure. I'd appreciate if we could talk through it this time instead of me leaving," Maya finished. She was at the foot of Riley's bed now, bent down in front of Riley's face where she lay on her bed.

Riley raised her head and Maya saw that tears were gliding down her cheek. She stood up and walked over to Maya. Without even thinking, Maya pulled Riley into her arms and held her tight.

"Why did it have to be him?" Riley asked through her tears.

"I'm sorry," Maya answered. She was crying too, now.

They stood there hugging and sobbing for a good three minutes before Riley pulled away. She wiped her eyes with her sleeve and sniffed.

"I have a few questions," she squeaked.

"Ask away," Maya smiled.

They sat on the window together and Maya knew she'd done it. She had her best friend back.
