—Y/n looked at Killua, who was lazily stretching. It had been around thirty minutes since the ordeal with Hisoka, and Y/n just couldn't stop thinking about it.
It was normal for Hisoka to harm others under the guise of it being for Y/n's safety, but.. Something was up with him. Hisoka Morrow normally would have lashed out at Y/n for hanging out with Killua and abandoning him. But he didn't. Rather, he didn't seem bothered by it at all.
A part of Y/n was relieved, of course. Yet, another part of them, in the back of their mind, was worried. What if Hisoka was losing interest in them? What if he threw them away like their creator did, or like the Kurta did?
"..Y/n?" Y/n's thoughts were broken up by the sound of Killua's voice, "I think the exam is about to start," He said, pointing to the front of the cave.
A timer was ringing through the area for a moment, until it abruptly stopped with a small quick. Soon after, the wall of the cave began to rumble, and lift up. Behind the wall was a man clad in purple with no mouth.
"I apologize for the delay," The man said. His voice was s sophisticated and slightly too pompous for Y/n's liking, "Thank you for waiting. The entry period for Hunter applicants is officially closed. So, with no further ado, the Hunter Exam will now begin!"
Killua smirked and tugged on Y/n's shirt, "This'll be fun, right?"
"...Maybe," Y/n shrugged, still not too excited about the exam.
"One final word of caution.. If you're short on luck or ability, keep in mind that there's a very real chance you could end up seriously injured.." Y/n debated turning around and leaving for a moment. Not because they were scared of being hurt, but simply because they believed they had better things to do, "Death is another distinct possibility. If you're willing to accept the risks involved, I'll ask you to follow me now. But for the rest of you! Kindly exit through the elevator located behind you."
Y/n looked at the elevator for a moment. They frowned. If they left, what would Hisoka do? Attempt to stop them? Or let them leave?
"Are you really thinking of going?" Killua asked, a small pout on his lips.
Right. Y/n wasn't only with Hisoka anymore. They now had a follower, who they had to protect and accompany, "...No. I'm staying," They shook their head, "This seems easy enough. I'm not frightened."
There were a few moments of silence. No one made a move to leave. Y/n believed that to be foolish. Surely, people would die here. Who would risk their life for an idiotic badge?
"Now then, all 404 applicants will now participate in Phase One," The purple man turned around and began striding away from the crowd.
Killua hopped on his skateboard, "Can you keep up?" He asked Y/n.
The puppet scoffed, "Of course I can," They said, rolling their eyes.
Y/n and Killua were in the middle of the pack. With around 200 people ahead of them and 200 behind them.
"Hey, they're picking up the pace," Killua observed, speeding up as well, "Let's hurry too, I don't want to be left behind."
Y/n began jogging alongside Killua, paying attention to the people ahead's movements, "How rude of me.." The purple, mouthless man spoke, "I neglected to introduce myself. I am Satotz, your Examiner for the First Phase of the Exam. It's my responsibility to lead you all to the Second Phase. The First Phase is already underway."
So the Hunter's Exam had already begun? Y/n frowned. It seemed... easy? Was the First Phase really just walking to the Second?
"Let's go farther to the front?" Y/n suggested, picking up the pace. No one knew how far they'd have to go, so everyone was cautious to keep their stamina. Going too fast would tire them out too quickly.
