After a while, Killua and Gon ran off again, so Y/n decided to leave Kurapika and Leorio behind too. They didn't know what to think about the Hunter's Exam or its applicants. They were strange. The exam was boring.

Y/n scanned the area around them. They watched as people passed out and fell down the flights of stairs from exhaustion. They scoffed, if those humans could not even walk up stairs, how did they think they ever had the chance to become a Hunter?

Y/n stared up ahead, there were a few people in front of them. They recognized three of them. Gon, Killua, and Hisoka. Gon and Killua were the farthest ahead and jogging together, while Hisoka was quieter a ways behind them.

"Oh, darling," Hisoka murmured, his voice cheery, "I can see you staring.. that's rude, you know?"

Y/n scoffed, "Whatever," They said, speeding up to run beside him. His hand quickly wrapped around Y/n's wrist, pulling them closer to him.

"I missed you, dear," He pouted, his eyes only on Y/n, who looked forward.

Y/n rolled their eyes, "As if," They said, their tone almost bitter, "I'm sure you've done fine without me, scum."

Hisoka hummed, his smile growing larger, "So harsh... it really does hurt my feelings," He clicked his tongue, "I saw you talking with those boys.." His eyes darkened slightly, "Didn't I tell you? I don't want you to talk to others."

Y/n looked to the floor, the air around the two began to grow heavy, "They approached me," The puppet said quickly, "I simply.. went along with it."

"You should not have," He said, his grip on their wrist growing tighter, threatening to shatter it, "You know I don't appreciate it when you let people close to you, dear.."

Y/n bit their lip, "I don't care what you think," They finally said, tearing their wrist away from the man's grip, "These followers will do us both good, so stop poking your nose in places it doesn't belong."

"So disrespectful..." Hisoka sighed, "You know I can get very jealous of others, doll," He smiled, "But, I'll allow you to play with your little toys... just as long as you share them?~"

"Whatever," The puppet rolled their eyes, "But they're mine first and foremost."

Hisoka chuckled, "No, my dear," He said, "You are mine, first and foremost," The jester mocked.

Y/n scoffed, crossing their arms, "There's the exit," They pointed to the bright light just a few feet away from the two, "Hurry up, Magician."

Hisoka licked his lips, "So demanding..~"

The puppet's eyes narrowed at the man, but they did not respond. They simply sped up, making it out of the cave as quickly as they could.

Once they got out, they were greeted by the harsh sunlight— and two young men.

"Y/n, you were so slow.." Killua groaned. Y/n looked down, he and Gon were sitting down on the dirt right by the exit out of the tunnel, "What took you so long?"

Y/n crossed their arms, "I'm not going to waste my energy on the first phase," They told him, "I'll save my strength for when this exam poses a real challenge."

Gon looked up at Y/n with his shiny, big brown eyes, "You didn't even break a sweat! That's so admirable, Y/n!" He complimented.

Y/n smiled snarkily, sticking their tongue out at Killua, "Hear that? I'm admirable, scum."

"More like you're scum," Killua snickered.

Y/n's eye twitched, "You should be glad I don't dislike you," They muttered, huffing.
