Fading Away

Rain wandered aimlessly on the street as heavy rain poured down making him shiver constantly. This was bound to happen. Amber was going to break up with him. People never stayed long with him, they eventually left forgetting all about him like he never mattered. He definitely sounded whiny to others but he didn't like playing victim either. Life just kept coming in his way to happiness. l

He was different from others, he had known that early on. He was a bit dull, it took him longer to understand social cues and that had got him in hot waters with lots of people. He could understand academics but was dumb when it came to people. He had lost of friends over years because of this and had accepted after a while that he wasn't meant to be loved. His parents were sweetest people out there. They loved and cherished him despite his naivety and never made him feel like a burden.

But that made it kinda harder for him. The guilt sat heavy in his heart, his parents deserved better. After everything they had done for him, he couldn't pay them back. He hadn't done anything for them to be proud of yet they kept showering him with love and care that it felt suffocating. How could even kindness hurt this bad? When he looked at others, he couldn't help but hate himself. People achieved so much in life, giving their parents a better lifestyle, making their dreams come true and here he was being a failure at every turn. As if he didn't feel anxious enough things went downright shit when he was dating Phayu. A total nightmare he hadn't told anyone about. What was the point anyway. No one would believe him.

By the time he had reached the bus stop he was completely drenched. Listlessly waiting for bus to arrive, Rain didn't notice a black car park right in front of him.

"Rain?"

Startled out of his self pity, Rain looked at Phayu glaring at him from his car.

"P'Phayu?"

"What are you doing here?"

"I....I'm going.....home."

"Why are you drenched? Can't you just take care of yourself instead of acting all pitiful-"

Rain had enough. Everyone had been telling him for last few hours that he wasn't enough or how apically he gad failed and was generally a nuisance.

"None of your business. Just get lost." He would have never dared to speak like this to Phayu when they were dating but it didn't matter anymore.

Phayu took a step closer, his face alight with fury, "Have you forgotten your manners?"

"Yes, I have."

"Maybe I'll have to teach you again."

Rain glared at the man, "Just leave me alone."

"Is that how you talk to someone who saved you?"

Rain didn't want to stay in Phayu's presence any longer so he gave up waiting for bus and started walking home in rain. Phayu looked bewildered at the boy swaying dangerously in harsh rain. The weather was getting worse and it would be nothing short of stupid to try to walk home in this weather. He rolled his eyes at another attempt to garner sympathy, that's what Rain did best. A clueless naive boy who was anything but innocent.

"Get in the car."

"No."

"I won't repeat myself."

"Then don't."

Phayu dragged him by his wrist and pushed him roughly in the car.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Rain glowered at the man in driving seat.

"I'll drop you off. Tell me the address."

"I didn't ask you to. Stop the car."

"Stop being stubborn. It's raining heavily."
