I wake up to my alarm chirping away. Seeing as I usually work night shifts, this one day shift to cover my co worker and friend Mandy is going to kill me, she better thank me for this.

I groggily walk into my bathroom and turn on the shower, standing there with my arm in the water, waiting for the water to heat up. As I hop into the shower I feel the warm water wash over my face, waking me up.

Finally after debating whether to get out of the shower, I finally hop out and dry my hair. Walking to my wardrobe I pick out my work uniform. Simple black flared pants and a black blouse. I walk over to the mirror and lightly curl my long white hair and finish by putting on some light makeup.

There is no way I'm going to get through this shift without coffee I thought to myself as I yawned and ordered my order in the Starbucks drive through.

I pull up to work and notice there is no other cars, it's going to be a quiet day I guess.

I unlock the building and head in.

"Good Morning Anna" I say out loud.

Anna is our local ghost who resides in our building. Originally, we weren't sure who this entity was. We would hear footsteps, have pictures fall over and have the heater turn off. My co workers used to get so rialled up about the ghostly events that would occur, which in my opinion is funny because I'd expect nothing more than creepy events occurring, working at a cemetery. One day I pulled out my spirit talker app and my evp and that lead to us finding out that we had a young woman here called Anna who perished in a fire. Unlike the other staff, I greet Anna every shift and say goodbye to her when I leave.

I logged in to the computer and spent the first half of the day answering calls and adhering to emails when one caught my eye.

To whom this may concern,

Good morning, I hope this email finds you well.

My name is Ryan Rees and my colleagues and I work amongst the paranormal research industry, we are dedicated to finding evidence and proof that the afterlife exists.

I have been doing a lot of research at your cemetery and was quite impressed at the large length of history that takes place.

If there would ever be any chance of us three researchers conducting an over-night investigation, please reach out to me. It would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards,

River Rees

I read the email stunned and excited that someone would actually want to investigate this cemetary. Number one, it is huge and number two, I thought it was only me who was a weird that was into paranormal around this area.

I hit the reply button and stood at the computer, staring into the empty void of the blank page, not knowing what to respond to. It would only be me on the overnight shifts so I don't see the harm but would my boss get frustrated? I mean the overnight shifts are just surveillance and maintenance, half the time I sleep so I don't see why I wouldn't be allowed.

I nervously rang my boss and broke the harrowing question to him, expecting a straight no for an answer, I was shocked beyond my core when he said yes.

"Y/N, I don't see any harm, it will reach an audience if they publish it to social media and might bring more of a name to our services" my boss said almost too happily.

"Okay, thankyou Matthew, I appreciate it. I'll respond to organise the event and keep you updated on when it will happen" I replied

"Great thank you Y/N, bye" he said swiftly hanging up the phone, leaving me no time to reply.

I stared back at this blank email amd began to type away.

Good afternoon Ryan,

I cannot say that we have had any requests like this before. I must say I would be very excited to have you and your team join us at the Greater Cemetery Co here in (y/n's town).

To discuss the organisation of the investigation date and events occurring please phone on (insert phone number).

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Kind regards,
Y/n

And sent. For some reason hitting the send button had me all excited, as if I was back to my young teen days, getting the excitement over sneaking 9ut or prank calling. The adrenaline was exciting as nothing much interesting ever happened in my life anymore.

The rest of the shift was back to answering the phone, cleaning the crematorium and doing a handover for the night shift staff.

"Goodbye Anna" I said closing the door and locking it.

The drive back home was quick and quiet, with my car radio being broken I had more time to sit in silence and imagine the investigation. Oh my God I hope I give them a tour, that would be an exciting shift.

Finally arriving at home, I jump straight into the shower and heat up some left overs that I had in the fridge. After eating I hopped into bed and put on an episode of the cold case files. Weirdly enough it puts me to sleep.

As I was drifting off to sleep, I heard my phone buzzing. What who would ring me? Feeling too sleepy to look at who was calling, I answer the phone and put it to my ear.

"Hello" I manage to groan tiredly

"Hi sorry I think I might have the wrong number, I'm looking for y/n. My name is Ryan Rees, I had send through an email about an investigation.

I immediately sat up and cleared my throat.

"Oh hi, um, yes, I mean no, you don't have the wrong number. I must have accidentally put my personal number onto the email instead of my work number. Non the less, you have the right person" I spit out embarrassingly

"Oh okay, well I am so glad that you're letting us investigate, thank you so much for the opportunity" Ryan said

"Oh its no worries, I have a fond passion for the paranormal so I was quite excited. Do you have an idea in mind on any dates? For reference, I work every night shift so I will be happy to meet you there and conduct a tour" I say a little too eager

"I was wondering if tomorrow would be okay?" Ryan said "if that's too short of notice I completely understand and we can arrange it for a few weeks down the tracks" he added

"Tomorrow sounds great, I start at 9pm so any time after then would be fine" I said

"Great that sounds good, again thank you so much, ill message you tomorrow when we are close by" he said

"That sounds great, thanks. I will see you tomorrow. Bye Ryan"

"See ya tomorrow. Bye" Ryan said.

I put my phone back on the bedside table and fell asleep to the thoughts of tomorrow and what the night would bring.
